It seems like not too long ago we were talking about the start of the BIG3 campaign and now we fast forward to the end of the regular season. There are just three games on the slate for this weekend, all with big stakes. The 3-Headed Monsters will try to maintop the top spot by themselves against Tri State, the Killer 3’s and Trilogy will face off for playoff positioning as both are 5-2, but the biggest game of them all will be Power vs Aliens.
Three spots have been clinched for the postseason but there’s one up for grabs. We’re just a couple of days away from the last chapter of the regular season and it’s been a fun ride for the last two months but there’s a lot more to come over the next couple of weeks.
BIG3 Basketball: Records To Watch Out For in Week 8
Most Points Scored in a Season
This record might be the most difficult to break in the last week of the season but it’s not impossible for the player trying to achieve it. Kevin Murphy will need 26 points to break the record for the most points in a season at 182 set by Joe Johnson in 2021. Murphy has accumulated 157 points while averaging just over 26 a game, fittingly the number he needs to break the record.
Murphy is having an incredible two-year stretch in the BIG3 by winning the Rookie of the Year last season and has a great chance to win the MVP this season. He leads the 5-1 3-Headed Monsters into a week eight matchup against Tri State, as they look to maintain the number one seed heading into the playoffs and try to finally get over the hump and win the BIG3 Championship.
Most Assists in a Season
Out of all three records to break this weekend, this one might be most likely. Leandro Barbosa currently holds the record for most assists in a season with 34 in 2021. Franklin Session leads the league this season with 32 assists, needing three more to eclipse the record. He’s averaging over four assists a game so there’s a good chance this happens. Session is part of one of the best duos in the league with Donte Green and they’ve flashed that in a few games this season. They will lead the Killer 3’s into the HUGE matchup against Trilogy, both of which are tied for second in the standings at 5-2.
Most Steals in a Season
Earl Clark is having a great season on the defensive end and it shows as he has a chance to break the single-season record for most steals in a season. He has tallied 11 steals while averaging 1.57 a game for the Trilogy. Clark had a monster game last week and that included two steals. His teammate David Hawkins holds the assists record with 13 in 2018, while also recording 12 in 2019. Judging by Clark’s steals per game, it’s going to be tough to swipe three away from a good Killer 3’s team but if anyone can do it, it’s him.
Not only is Clark been great on the defensive end but he’s number nine in the league in points per game with 15.86 and seventh in total points with 111. He’s also first in total rebound (62), tied for 11th in total assists (15), second in total blocks (8), and fourth in total field goals made (47). Clark has been one of the best players in the league this season and a force next to Isiah Briscoe. As mentioned, Trilogy and the Killer 3’s are tied in the standings and fighting for positioning ahead of this matchup.
