Deshaun Watson leads Cleveland's offense against Titans

Can Deshaun Watson Give Cleveland’s Offense the Spark It Needs?

Deshaun Watson is giving the Cleveland Browns a reason to believe in their offense again. Through seven games of the 2026 season, Watson has helped lead the Browns to a 5-2 record, putting the team in its strongest position since its 2020 playoff run. With improved passing performance, an ability to find open receivers and a clutch factor for delivering in crucial moments, Watson is becoming an important part of Cleveland’s offense early in its success.

Watson Is Finding His Rhythm

One of the biggest improvements in his game has been his ability to distribute the football and find open receivers. His passing has helped create opportunities for the young playmakers, giving Cleveland’s offense another level as the team looks to remain competitive in the tough AFC North.

Watson’s most recent performance against the Tennessee Titans was an excellent example. He completed 25 of 36 passes for 308 yards, marking his first 300-yard passing game with Cleveland. He also added a late-game rushing touchdown to help lead the Browns to a 27-24 victory.

His connection with his receivers was noticeable against Tennessee. Rookie KC Concepcion recorded eight receptions for 129 yards, while tight end Harold Fannin Jr. halued in six catches for 91 yards. His willingness to get the ball out early and into his playmakers’ hands helped generate more offensive production.

Although there have been struggles, there has been encouraging progress. If he can continue making smart decisions, limiting costly mistakes and taking advantage of open receivers, the offense could continue to grow as the season progresses.

Clutch Performer in Key Moments

The most impressive part of the season has been his performance in the fourth quarter. He has led five game-winning drives in seven games, with each of Cleveland’s victories featuring a fourth-quarter scoring drive.

Against the Titans, he helped erase an early 14-0 deficit before putting the Browns ahead 24-17 with a nine-yard rushing touchdown. When the game was tied late in the fourth, Cleveland’s offense responded by completing a 36-yard pass to Fannin Jr., putting Andre Szmyt in position for a game-winning field goal.

The ability to respond under pressure has become a key feature of the season so far, with the team holding out strong when games become tight. Watson is always playing a significant role in manufacturing game-winning drives, showing his ability to stay composed and make important plays when it matters the most for Cleveland’s offense.

Providing Leadership for Cleveland

His impact goes beyond just what is happening on the field. His experiences have helped several young players on Cleveland’s offense.

Fannin Jr. has shown praise to the quarterback during tight games, highlighting the value of having a veteran signal caller who can keep teammates focused when the pressure increases. That confidence can make a difference late in games, which has been seen so far this season.

The Last Word

The start to the 2026 season has given optimism for Cleveland’s offense as it has shown it can be productive. The challenge will be now to maintain consistency, as there have been times this season when the production has fallen below par. With the offense having a strong performance in Week 7, they will look to carry that momentum into Pittsburgh, where they haven’t won since January 2021.
