Teruaki Sato could become one of the most intriguing players to watch during the upcoming MLB offseason. The Japanese slugger has established himself as one of baseball’s most dangerous players, combining impressive power with the ability to drive in runs consistently. After a standout season with the Hanshin Tigers, Sato could attract significant attention from MLB teams looking to strengthen their lineups.
His left-handed power, experience at multiple defensive positions, and potential to become a middle-of-the-order hitter make him an exciting target. However, adjusting to MLB pitching and finding the right defensive fit will be important factors in his transition. Several contenders could benefit from adding his bat, but which teams offer the best combination of opportunity, roster fit, and championship potential?
Three MLB Landing Spots That Make Sense for Sato
1. New York Mets
The New York Mets could be an exciting place for Sato because of their financial resources and the value he would bring to their team. The Mets could lose some of their players this season. One player is Bo Bichette, their great offseason acquisition, and if Bichette chooses to stay with the Mets, it will cost New York $42 million for the 2027 season.
The Mets have been bad the last couple of years; allowing Pete Alonso to walk was probably one of the worst things they did last season, as he was one of the best players in MLB for the 2026 season, so they could definitely use a player like Sato on their team. He had 39 home runs this season in the Japanese league, and the year before that, 42. He is definitely a great player that the Mets could use on their roster.
Sato often plays third base, but they could always move him to first if they make any offseason moves relating to any player on their team. His ability to be a powerful hitter would be a big boost for the Mets, and he could be the replacement for Alonso. If the Mets want to add some power to their lineup, Soto could be the best addition to the team.

2. Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox also need a designated hitter, unless they put Andrew Benintendi there, but he does have one season remaining on his $14.5 million contract.
The White Sox are a team that everyone was shocked by when they made it so far in the postseason, so if they bring in Sato, he could help improve the roster and help them make another deep playoff run.
The White Sox could offer Sato a big contract, and Sato could make an immediate impact for Chicago. However, it depends on whether the White Sox even want Sato on their team. He will likely be an expensive free agent, which is not something that the White Sox would typically pursue.
3. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers would be a good place for Sato if he is interested in joining a championship-contending team that is looking for a bounce-back. Playing alongside some of the best players in the MLB would give Sato an experience that would help him grow and help him get better.
The Dodgers could definitely afford Sato. They are loaded with money, and bringing a star like him could be a great move for the Dodgers. As we all know, there is a pretty good chance Sato would want to go to the Dodgers for the money and the opportunity to win championships.
The only problem is the Dodgers don’t really need a left-handed slugger, and the positions he plays are occupied by players with a similar skill set. They could always move him someplace else. It just depends on whether they are willing to go after him.
