The Alabama Crimson Tide has plenty of talent on the defensive side of the ball, and several players have stepped up through the first six games of the 2026 season.
While Alabama has faced some tough competition, five defensive standouts have consistently stood out because of their production and impact.
Alabama’s defense will be important as the Crimson Tide moves deeper into the season. With several players already making big plays, the defense has shown that it can compete against some of the best teams in college football. The experience and production from these five players give Alabama plenty of confidence heading into the rest of the schedule. If they can continue making tackles, creating pressure, and forcing turnovers, they could become an even bigger strength for the Crimson Tide.
Here are the five best defensive players for the Crimson Tide so far this season.
The Five Best Crimson Tide Defensive Standouts This Season
1. Luke Metz
Luke Metz has been an excellent player for Alabama’s defense this season. Metz has 45 tackles in six games. Metz had his best game of the season vs. the South Carolina Gamecocks, with 13 tackles and a fumble recovery.
He has made himself one of the best players on the Alabama defense throughout this season and will probably continue to do so. Metz’s ability to make tackles has definitely helped Alabama this season.
2. Caleb Woodson
Caleb Woodson has been one of Alabama’s big contributors this season. Recording 42 tackles, two sacks, and an interception.
Woodson was very impressive vs. the Georgia Bulldogs, recording nine tackles in the game. His combination of tackling ability and pass-rushing production has made him one of the most reliable players on Alabama’s defense.
3. Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard continues to be one of Alabama’s best defenders on the field, recording 26 tackles, and he leads Alabama with the most interceptions, which is two.
Hubbard got one interception vs. Georgia and eight tackles. His experience and ability to create turnovers have made him one of Alabama’s most valuable defensive backs.
4. Devan Thompkins
Devan Thompkins has provided an important presence along Alabama’s defensive line. Through six games, he has recorded 25 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and three sacks.
His ability to create pressure in the backfield has given Alabama another disruptive player up front. With three sacks already this season, Thompkins has been one of the Crimson Tide’s most productive pass rushers.
5. Red Morgan
Red Morgan rounds out the top five after making an impact both as a tackler and playmaker. He has recorded 24 total tackles, two pass breakups, and two interceptions this season.
Morgan has also returned one of his interceptions for a touchdown, giving Alabama another defensive player capable of changing the game with a turnover.
Final Thoughts
Metz, Woodson, Hubbard, Thompkins and Morgan have all made significant contributions to Alabama’s defense this season, and they will be key players to watch against the Tennessee Volunteers this weekend.
With production coming from the linebacker group, defensive line and secondary, Alabama has several players capable of making game-changing plays as the season continues.
