Blue Jays

Are the Toronto Blue Jays the Class of the American League?

The Toronto Blue Jays have been the talk of the AL East, and with a trio of additions that occurred at the trade deadline, they continue to light up the boxscore. They own the best record in the AL, and their 15-1 smackdown against the Colorado Rockies showcased their urgency against a team in which they strugged with in the past.

The Blue Jays recorded a season-high 25 hits in their victory in Game 1 against the Rockies.

With less than two months left of the 2025 regular season, and with the way they have been playing, they are in a good spot to make a deep push in the postseason.

But are they clearly the class of the American League?

Blue Jays Bolstering Its Lineup For the Homestretch

The Blue Jays acquired Seranthony Dominguez to help enhance their back-end bullpen, as well as Louis Varland and first baseman Ty France. But it was the addition of Shane Bieber, who is in a solid position to be the ace of the rotation, that turned heads.

Among all the trade acquisitions, Bieber stands out as being able to have the biggest impact. His career 3.22 ERA and 958 strikeouts across 843 innings pitched speaks for itself. If he can remain healthy, he will do a lot of damage in the rotation and be an important starter in the postseason.

How They Stack Up With the AL East

The Blue Jays have recently shown some struggles against the much weaker Baltimore Orioles. That said, the O’s are also last in the East and are not serious threats. The New York Yankees’ sloppy defense and having been swept by the Miami Marlins have landed them a 7-11 record since July 12. The Boston Red Sox have awoken, winning 20 of their last 26 games and have crawled up in the standings ahead of the Yankees, but behind the Blue Jays, for second in the AL East.

How They Stack Up With the Rest of the American League

AL Central: Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Guardians

The Tigers and Guardians are two teams that are looking to make a statement in the AL this season. The Tigers remain five games ahead of the Guardians in the AL Central. The Tigers are 5-5 in their last 10 games.

The Guardians have been on a real tear going 9-1 in their last 10 games. Jose Ramirez continues to be the Guardians reliable hitter batting .293 with 23 home runs and two hits and three runs in his last five games.

AL West: Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners

The Mariners and Astros are two teams in the AL that the Blue Jays have competition with when it comes to postseason baseball. Both teams have been playing solid baseball.

The Mariners are 7-3 in their last 10 games and Cal Raleigh continues to crush bombs and leads MLB with 44 home runs. He hit his 44th in the Mariners 7-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Astros are in first in the AL West with a one game lead over the Mariners. This makes clinching the AL West that much more of a challenge. The Astros came off a 5-4 loss from the Yankees but beat them 5-3 on Friday.

Conclusion

The Blue Jays’ offense has them ranked eighth with runs scored. They are playing better than their 2015 success with guys like Jose Bautista, who ran the show in the postseason that year. If they don’t make it to the World Series, they will likely earn their first AL East title since 2015. The fact that the Blue Jays acquired Bieber demonstrates their willingness to make a deep push this season and that they mean business.
