Mark Vientos hits the ball into play against the Washington Nationals. Could Vientos be one of the top Boston Red Sox trade targets this offseason?

3 Red Sox Trade Targets Who Could Transform the Lineup

The Boston Red Sox have the potential to build a lineup capable of competing with the American League’s best, but sometimes the difference between a good offense and a championship-caliber one comes down to making the right move at the right time.

While Boston has several promising young players and established contributors, adding another impact bat could change the complexion of the lineup. A successful trade would give the Red Sox more protection in the batting order, improve their production in key situations, and provide manager Chad Tracy with greater flexibility when constructing the lineup.

Here are three trade targets who could help take Boston’s offense to another level.

Red Sox Trade Targets to Improve the Lineup

1. Hunter Goodman

You are probably thinking to yourself that the Red Sox already solved the catcher problem by bringing in Adley Rutschman, but that does not mean you can’t improve your roster and bring in more talent for the catcher position.

The Red Sox could always put Hunter Goodman at designated hitter, and maybe consider trading away Jarren Duran. Goodman would be a huge upgrade for the Red Sox. Goodman would give Boston another legitimate threat against opposing pitchers. His power could be particularly valuable at Fenway Park, where right-handed hitters can take advantage of the Green Monster by driving the ball toward left field.

The only problem would be if the Colorado Rockies are even willing to trade away Goodman for picks or prospects, or even players that can help improve their roster.

2. Ketel Marte

Ketel Marte would be an exciting addition for the Red Sox because of his combination of hitting ability, power, and experience. The Arizona Diamondbacks infielder has established himself as a dangerous offensive player who can contribute both extra-base hits and home runs.

For Boston, Marte would immediately strengthen the team and help them win games. The Red Sox would not need to rely on multiple players as they do now. Adding Marte to the team could definitely upgrade the batting lineup, and maybe even help lead them to a World Series and break the eight-year drought.

Why it would make sense: Marte is a Red Sox offensive weapon who could contribute power, versatility, and consistency. If the Diamondbacks came for offers, the Red Sox should definitely explore that opportunity. Marte would be a huge addition to the team.

3. Mark Vientos

Mark Vientos presents a different kind of opportunity for the Red Sox. The New York Mets infielder has already shown that he can produce significant power, including a 27-home-run season in 2024. However, his production declined in 2026, when he hit 13 home runs in 87 games.

Vientos would definitely be an interesting trade candidate. If the Mets were interested in trading him, the Red Sox should definitely pursue him.

Vientos would give the Red Sox another weapon at the corner infield, or they could move him to designated hitter if needed. You never know, the Mets could decide against trading him, but if they were interested in it, it would be a good idea for the Red Sox to consider pursuing him.
