Takeaways from the Damian Lillard Trade
1. The Specifics
The star point guard signed with the Bucks as a part of a three-team deal while Jrue Holiday, Deandre Ayton, Toumani Camara, a 2029 first-round pick, and two pick swaps will go to Portland. The Phoenix Suns will acquire Jusuf Nurkic, Grayson Allen, Nassir Little, and Keon Johnson as a part of this trade. More details on the pay for these players will come out soon.
This trade is so shocking because everyone thought Lillard was going to the Miami Heat after all the hype this offseason. His agent, Aaron Goodwin, was told that his stance was “too aggressive”, regarding his point guard wanting to join the Heat. He was told that any further comments about where Lillard wanted to play would result in his being subject to discipline by the NBA.
2. Milwaukee is the Favorite
This move will significantly shake up the NBA, especially with many of Milwaukee’s key pieces gone to several teams. But the big story is that we get to see Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo play on the same team!
You can already see the pick-and-rolls being the best in the game, as they solidify themselves as the new dynamic duo and the face of the league. The Bucks have been the favorites to go back to the finals in recent years, and this trade is sure to put them as the clear champions.
3. Damian Lillard’s Legacy Left Behind
Even though the NBA world is hyped for Lillard, the same cannot be said for Trail Blazer fans. Dame played in Portland for 11 years, bringing the team to the postseason eight times. They were never able to get passed the Western Conference Finals, though, which can be a big reason he wanted to go elsewhere.
