2024 was a successful season for the New York Mets. Boasting a 89-73 record and a second place finish in the National League East division, the Mets entered the NL Wildcard to take on the Milwaukee Brewers. This is where New York went on a run to the NL Championship Series, including taking down division rival Philadelphia Phillies. However, the Mets just fell short the eventual World Series Champions Los Angeles Dodgers in six games.
For the 2025, FanDuel is projecting that New York will be around 90.5 wins. This number is similar to the number of games the Mets won in 2024. However, New York has become a better team after an offseason that was a big win for New York. Here’s why the New York Mets can easily hit the over in 2025.
2025 New Yorks Mets O/U: Why the Mets Can Hit the OVER… Easily
The Mets Did Well in Free Agency
One thing that must be said is that New York CAN hit the over, not that they will. In 2023, the Mets came off a 100-win season and failed miserably to do anything that season. However, after showing resilience in 2024 with a comeback season, the Mets are set to become World Series contenders in 2025. Firstly, the Mets signed the modern-day Mickey Mantle and Juan Soto to a massive deal. Then, New York signed Pete Alonso and Jesse Winker to fill 1st base and the DH position. In addition to this, New York re-signed Sean Manea and many starting pitchers, such as Griffin Canning and Frankie Montas.
The Mets also signed some relievers, including A.J. Minter, a significant win for New York. New York was able to retain most of its talent and add some. In other words, the Mets have no reason not to be a good team in 2025. Even with some early injuries to Francisco Alvarez, Frankie Montas, and Sean Manea, New York has so much depth that this only gives the Mets a chance to test whether or not sustaining certain players (like Brett Baty) is necessary.
Lots and Lots of Power
The Mets did not just add some good players; they said and retained some great players. Here are some players capable of a 30-homer season: Pete Alonso, Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, and Mark Vientos. And here are players capable of a 25-homer season: Francisco Alvarez, Jose Siri, and Brandon Nimmo. The statistics show that all these players have accomplished these feats before and can do it again. Having Alonso, Soto, and Lindor is enough to make a pitcher not want to face a lineup.
Add on Vientos, Nimmo, and more; simply put, the lineup is potent. With the addition of Soto and Siri and the retaining Alonso and Winker, the lineup is enough to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a run for their money.
The Depth Is There
Last but not least, it’s the depth. The Met’s have exploded with some prospects who haven’t quite been given a good chance in New York yet. Blake Tidwell, Brandon Sproat, Ronny Mauricio, Drew Gilbert, and more headline some prospects, adding depth and exciting breakout chances. There are more players, such as Brett Baty, who would love to get a chance at the big leagues in 2025.
With so many players, the Mets have a more significant chance of getting another Vientos or simply a breakout star. Overall, New York can get over 90.5 games easily. Of course, the Mets won’t for sure become a juggernaut. However, with such great players, they have better chance than not at being a great team.
