In 2017, the American League Most Valuable Player competition came right down to the very end. In the end, Jose Altuve beat out both Jose Ramirez and Mike Trout to take home the award. The 2018 MVP race is going to be very interesting to watch. The award is wide open, here are some of the American League MVP favorites, in no order.
AL MVP Favorites
5 Byron Buxton
Buxton is a sleeper to win the American League MVP. He was once one of the top prospects in baseball. Buxton hasn’t exactly panned out as planned for the Twins. However, in the second half of the 2017 season Buxton found his stride. This will prove to be the turning point the Buxton’s career. The Twins will surprise everyone in 2018 and contend thanks to a big year from Byron Buxton.
4 Carlos Correa
Correa has been scratching the surface with his potential his first couple years in the league. He is still only 23 years old entering his fourth year in the league. 2018 is going to be the season Correa puts it all together. Carlos Correa is the type of player you build your franchise around. He is a tremendous story off the field, and an absolute star on the field. He has an elite glove and his bat is only getting better. If not the 2018 American League MVP, Carlos Correa will win an AL MVP one day.
3 Mike Trout
Mike Trout is the best player in baseball, and he is only 26 years young. On the diamond, he does everything well, and makes baseball look easy. He is legitimately a five tool player. The Angels have surrounded Trout with much improved talent in 2018. Shoei Otani isn’t going to be the only star in LA in 2018, Mike Trout will rise to the top again.
2 Jose Altuve
Jose Altuve may be the smallest guy on the field, but he is the hardest working guy on the field. He not only took home the 2017 AL MVP, but he also played a huge role in the first World championship in Astros history. Altuve is the epitome of consistency. He is a speedster, hits for average, and has added a ton of power for a little guy. Jose Altuve is going to continue to be the biggest pest on the field in 2018.
1 Giancarlo Stanton
Giancarlo Stanton won the 2017 NL MVP after putting on a home run display. He was traded to the Yankees this offseason. Stanton is going to become even more fierce, moving into a lineup with power bats Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge. It is going to be fun to watch Stanton play his home games in that little league stadium in the Bronx.
