The New York Mets are red-hot, the division is wide open, and the clock is ticking. However, the amazin’s have gotten mounds of offense from their top-four hitters in the lineup. It is awesome to have a “big three”, or in this case a big four. However, the Mets need balance, and this is not far away.
The Mets Have the Pieces to Make a Significant Trade
The Mets Have a Ton of Young Players
The list of young prospects and players for New York is quite impressive. Mark Vientos, Bret Baty, Ronny Mauricio, Blake Tidwell, Nolan McLean, Brandon Sproat, Luisangel Acuña, Ryan Clifford, Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert, and other players demonstrate that the Mets have a wealth of young talent. Young talent that will not all see the big leagues. However, most of this young talent won’t see the big leagues because of the talent of the current roster.
This gives the Mets the power to land elite, proven stars. Whether that team is the Chicago White Sox or the Minnesota Twins, New York has young players that they can use in trade situations. All of this talent cannot go to waste.
The Mets Should Make a Blockbuster Trade
The Mets’ offense and pitching can use some help. However, despite other’s beliefs that the pitching is in the worst of situations, New York could go either way. The Mets’ lineup is a major issue. The last three or four hitters in the lineup have provided nothing compared to the first 4 or 5 hitters.
Many of those players are young players who have either added a spark or just performed horribly. The end of the lineup usually has a combined 15 homers at most, compared to the beginning of the lineup having close to 100 usually. Batting average has also been a problem with center fielders and third basemen, as combined the batting average sits in the low .220s.
However, if New York wants to make a huge difference, then New York should make a massive trade to improve the lineup all around. Some names that should be a big target: Luis Robert Jr., Cedric Mullins, Alex Bregman, and even Eugenio Suarez. Both 3rd base and Center Field can be a position that can be focused on at the deadline. One thing is for sure: the Mets shouldn’t shy away from trading for an absolute stud at the deadline.
These proven players could make the difference in the lineup that Carlos Mendoza is looking for. If the Mets make a blockbuster trade, it could be a franchise-altering trade. Three words: World Series Favorite.
Mets Shouldn’t Waste Such Young Talent
The one thing that any team dreams about, the Mets have. The Mets are already a juggernaut of a team and may be one of the best teams in the MLB. However, not many teams can say that they’re a juggernaut and still have a good farm system. Some might even say the Mets have a great farm system.
Despite not having any top prospects, New York has quantity. New York has over 10 young players who they can trade at the deadline. If New York doesn’t make a big trade soon, they will simply waste a massive opportunity that they just should not waste.
With so many young studs and some players who some might even say meet the criteria of future stars, the Mets have the ability to make trades. Sure, the Mets can improve their team with bullpen additions and minor rotation additions. That shouldn’t be hard though. What the amazin’s really need to do is realize the World Series isn’t won by hiding in a corner and doing nothing like the Pittsburgh Pirates.
If this team doesn’t make a big trade, they will waste a great ability to get better. New York has the depth. They have the stars. Now, they need the guts. If Stearns makes the move, this team doesn’t just contend — it dominates.
