What The 2025 NBA Draft Lottery Means For The Oklahoma City Thunder

The ping-pong balls didn’t land in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s favor on Monday night during the NBA Draft Lottery.

Oklahoma City didn’t acquire the Philadelphia 76ers’ 2025 first-round pick, which was protected in the top six, and Philadelphia jumped to No.3.

Since Philadelphia retained its pick, Oklahoma City now owns Philadelphia’s (top-four protected) first-round pick in 2026 and 2027. If the pick doesn’t convey by then, Philadelphia will owe OKC its 2027 second-round pick.

However, Oklahoma City still has two first-round picks in this year’s draft: picks No.15 (via Miami Heat) and No.24 (via Los Angeles Clippers).

In a night that turned chaotic. Here are the full results of the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery.

Oklahoma City’s 2025 Draft Picks

Receiving Philadelphia’s pick would’ve been the cherry on top for the Thunder, who’re in the middle of a playoff run. They’re coming off of a historical regular season, winning a franchise record of 68 games and earning the No.1 seed in consecutive seasons.

The Thunder may not have a lottery pick but owns picks No.15 (via Miami Heat), No.24 (via Los Angeles Clippers), acquired through a pick swap in the Paul George trade, and No.44 (via Atlanta Hawks) in the 2025 NBA Draft.

What Does Dallas Mavericks Winning the Lottery Means

The Mavericks—who had only a 1.8 percent chance at the No.1 pick—won the NBA Draft Lottery on Monday night.

Months after the shocking decision to trade Luka Docnic, Dallas, for the first time in franchise history, ends up with the No.1.

After a chaotic few months, the Mavericks can land another young franchise cornerstone. Cooper Flagg is the projected No.1 pick and is considered a franchise-altering talent.

Dallas winning the lottery will affect Oklahoma City quite a bit moving forward. A player like Cooper Flagg coming to an already loaded and star-studded Western Conference will make it more competitive and challenging for the Thunder.

The Thunder own Dallas’ 2028 first-round swap.

Adding Young Talent

Oklahoma City can add more young talent to a loaded roster with two first-round picks (No.15 & No.24) and a second-round pick (No.44) in this draft.
