The transfer window has been open for a while now and clubs are trying to find the best bargain around. Sometimes the star signing in the season is a free agent.
Clubs revealed their retained list a while ago and several star names have missed out. Every manager knows that a player on free transfer could make all the difference, whether it is giving experience to the dressing room or adding to the depth in the squad.
So here are the five best players without a contract this summer.

5. Bacary Sagna
The full-back was released by Manchester City at the end of last campaign after being seen as surplus to requirements by manager Pep Guardiola.
The Frenchman has a wealth of experience having made 238 career Premier League appearances. He has also won the League Cup with City and the FA Cup in 2014 with Arsenal. Internationally he has been the capped 65 times for France.
At 34 years-old Sagna still has the ability to play at a high level and would a great signing for many Premier League sides.
4. Jesus Navas
The tricky winger arrived to England with high expectations four years ago. The 31 year-old spent 10 years at boyhood club Sevilla winning the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Cup twice.
His £17m move to City did not go as well as planned though. The Spaniard only managed four goals in his four seasons at the Etihad.
Despite this, on a free transfer the winger is a bargain. Navas managed 25 assists in his spell in the Premier League, showing his vision may be better than finishing. With bags of pace and experience there will be many suitors this summer.
3. Dimitar Berbatov
The Bulgarian is without a club this summer after being released by Greek side PAOK FC at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.
The 36 year-old is well known for his time in the Premier League at Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham. He has managed a incredible 94 career league goals in the English top flight.
A recent stint at Ligue 1 Monaco showed the striker has not lost his scoring ability, bagging 13 goals and 6 assists in his two seasons in France.
Despite being known for his walking football style of play, Berbatov knows how to finish. After a move to Sunderland broke down in April, I see the striker finding a club abroad rather than back in England.
2. Dani Alves
It is not often a three time Champions League and six time La Liga winner is without a club in the summer. But that is the case for Dani Alves.
The full-back was let go by Juventus at the end of the season, despite helping the club win the Serie A, Coppa Italia and reach the Champions League final.
The 34 year-old also amassed 341 appearances for Barcelona in his eight year stint at the Catalan club. He was an ever presence of the legendary Pep Guardiola era that won 13 trophies in three seasons.
The Brazilian appearances were limited in the Italian league last year, featuring only 15 times. Suggesting age may be catching up in respect of the amount of games he can play in a season.
However, he put in a number of eye catching performances in the Champions League last year and without doubt will have several suitors at the moment.
1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The legend that is Zlatan Ibrahimovic has rarely been a free agent in his career, but this summer the Swedish star will have the pick of what club he chooses next.
The forward was on the end of a shock release from Manchester United, having scored 17 Premier League goals.
With many critics believing Ibrahimovic was too old coming to the Premier League last season. Only to prove them wrong.
A serious ligament injury in his right knee in April, didnt help his chances of staying at Old Trafford.
The 35-year-old has had a glittering career to date, winning two trophies at all six clubs he has been at. The stand out ones being the La Liga with Barcelona in 2010 and Ligue 1 four times with PSG. Scoring 133 times for the French side along the way.
The self proclaimed ‘God of Manchester’ is still cable of playing for any top flight club, but at the age of 35 I believe a move to America will suit Ibrahimovic more.
