With Patrick Mahomes laboring with a knee injury and an expected return date finally available, the Kansas City Chiefs have fallen to +1200 in the Super Bowl 54 futures, leaving a well-defined top four. Unlike most years, the top-four isn’t evenly split between the AFC and the NFC. As you’ll see below, one AFC team basically already has reservations in the home locker room at Hard Rock Stadium.

Top 4 Super Bowl Favorites Ahead of Week 9
New England Patriots: +225
The undefeated Patriots remain Super Bowl 54 favorites. Indeed, they have gotten considerably shorter since the start of the season, now sporting +225 odds to hoist a second straight Lombardi Trophy, and the seventh in the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick era. No one can say the 8-0 Pats have played a tough schedule, but they have completely dismantled almost every opponent. Despite laying double-digits most weeks, they are 6-2 against the spread and own the NFL’s best point differential at +189, which is 59 points better than second (49ers).
New Orleans Saints: +500
The 6-1 Saints arguably have the most complete team they have ever had in Sean Payton‘s tenure in the Big Easy. Once reliant on the prolific arm of Drew Brees, New Orleans wasn’t just able to survive a five-week absence from their future Hall of Fame quarterback, they were able to thrive. Thanks to a dominant defense, the Saints went 5-0 both straight up and against the spread while Teddy Bridgewater was under center. With Brees back in week eight, they dismantled Arizona, 31-9, the third time this season they’ve held an opponent to ten points or fewer.
Green Bay Packers: +800
The nearly-flawless Saints would have shorter odds if not for the presence of two other powerhouses in the NFC, the first being the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers and new head coach Matt LaFleur are proving to be a much happier marriage than many predicted. Even without top wide receiver Davante Adams for a full four games this year, Rodgers still has the Pack fourth in the NFL in offensive efficiency. He has a more-than-serviceable defense helping him out, as well, with Green Bay’s defense ranking 13th in efficiency and 11th in scoring (20.4 PPG).
San Francisco 49ers: +800
The third beast of the NFC is the 8-0 San Francisco 49ers. A healthy Jimmy Garoppolo is leading a respectable offense, but it’s the Niners’ ferocious defense (second only to New England in both efficiency and scoring) that has kept the loss column at zero. Filled with first-round draft picks, the front seven is eating opposing quarterbacks alive. Rookie edge rusher Nick Bosa ranks first in Pass Rush Productivity at ProFootballFocus, not among rookies, among every player in the NFL. Yes, he grades out better than Khalil Mack, Aaron Donald, J.J. Watt, Myles Garrett, etc. He has a real shot to win Defensive Player of the Year, and the uber-talented Niners have a real shot to win their first super bowl since the Steve Young days.
