The Buffalo Bills have recently become one of the teams to watch in the NFL. This is partly due to the play and leadership of their young quarterback Josh Allen. Allen has improved tremendously in his short time with Buffalo and should continue to improve with more time. This season offers Allen an opportunity to show that he is an elite NFL quarterback and lead a Bills’ team with a talented roster to the playoffs and beyond. With new weapons and more confidence than ever, here are three reasons why there will be a Josh Allen 2020 breakout.
Three Reasons For A Josh Allen 2020 Breakout Season
1. Upgraded Weapons
The Bills took this past off-season to rebuild their offense around Josh Allen. With only a few years remaining on his rookie contract, the time to make a run at the super bowl is now. Allen made progress in year two in almost every way and he should continue to progress in year three. Buffalo is hopeful that Allen can lead Buffalo through a tough schedule and into the playoffs. Stefon Diggs leads the group of new weapons for Buffalo and is a huge improvement at wide receiver.
They also acquired a new running back to replace Frank Gore with Zack Moss from Utah. Moss is a powerful runner who can complement Devin Singletary in the Bills’ backfield. They also drafted Gabriel Davis from UCF. Davis is a big receiver who played well in college and can make big plays for Buffalo when he is called upon. Buffalo also added some more to their offensive line with the signing if Daryl Williams. With these additions, Allen and Buffalo’s offense should be able to compete with any defense in the NFL.
2. Increased Confidence
Leading your team to a 10-win season and a playoff birth in your second season is an impressive feat. For Allen, this is a big confidence boost knowing that his team around him is returning improved. If Allen can channel this confidence into his play, he could see a major improvement this season. This would be ideal for Buffalo, who is going to have their most important season in recent history this year. An improved and confident Allen would be the best thing Buffalo could get for this season.
3. Another Off-Season to Develop
Allen has had steady development since entering the NFL in 2018. Allen improved his completion percentage by six percent, had 3,000 yards, and threw single-digit interceptions in comparison to his rookie year. That year saw him throw for 2,000 yards and 12 interceptions. Allen also doubled his win total from the previous year, leading Buffalo to its first 10-win season since 1999. Allen has the chance to eclipse 4,000 yards this season with the added production of Stefon Diggs and has already shown the ability to limit his turnovers and improve his accuracy. Working with throwing coaches and other NFL quarterbacks this off-season will surely help Allen’s development further. Buffalo should be excited to see the next version of Allen’s game and they will need it to continue the success they had in 2019.
Outlook
The Bills have the opportunity to build on success this season and establish themselves as a consistent threat. This will depend on Allen’s performance throughout the season. If Allen can excel for Buffalo, they can go as far as they want this season. However, if Allen does not show noticeable progression, the Bills may find themselves looking at another early playoff exit if they do manage to make the playoffs in a quickly improving AFC conference.
