Joe Burrow‘s recent comments about his future have caused a world of speculation about his future with the Cincinnati Bengals. If Burrow wants to consistently be in contention for the playoffs and play for a team with good ownership and a strong coach, here are three teams that make the most sense.
Three Teams That Could Trade For Joe Burrow
Los Angeles Rams
The LA Rams will soon be looking for a successor to current quarterback Matthew Stafford, who right now is in the midst of what could be an MVP season. If the Rams win the Super Bowl this season and Stafford decides to call it quits after a 17-year career, the Rams could pursue Burrow if he wants out.
Sean McVay has coached the Rams since 2017 and has yet to work with a rookie quarterback as his starter. They drafted Stetson Bennett out of Georgia in the 2023 NFL Draft, but Bennett has mostly been a depth piece for the Rams and not someone they view as the future of the franchise once Stafford is done. He has worked with Jared Goff and Stafford, both quarterbacks who were veterans.
The Rams currently have two first-round picks in the coming 2026 draft. Could the Rams turn to the Bengals and offer a substantial draft package and potential young players in exchange for Burrow’s services? It is possible.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings could be in business again for a quarterback if second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy‘s development isn’t sped up. The Vikings had a 14-3 season in 2024 with quarterback Sam Darnold at the helm; however, they let Darnold walk in free agency in favor of McCarthy, whom they drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
McCarthy’s season has been up and down, with him looking shaky at times. With the Vikings having a contending roster, they could choose to pivot from McCarthy and make a big offer for Burrow. It will also help that Burrow has familiarity with Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson, as he and Burrow won a national championship together at LSU.
Philadelphia Eagles
It might sound crazy on the surface, but the Eagles have never shied away from taking a big swing if it means making the team better in the long run. The Eagles drafted current starter Jalen Hurts while they still had Carson Wentz on the roster, and they eventually moved on from Wentz to Hurts.
If Hurts struggles in the playoffs or continues to be the biggest reason the Eagles’ offense remains stagnant, finishing the season or in the playoffs, the Eagles could consider making calls about Burrow.
A trade that makes sense is sending Hurts to Cincinnati and including any draft picks that would be part of the deal to acquire Burrow. Burrow wants to play for a contender, and if the Eagles sour on Hurts.
It’s crazy to consider trading a star quarterback after he won Super Bowl MVP. Still, the Eagles quarterback has been very inconsistent, and head coach Nick Sirianni has even had to answer questions this season about potentially benching Hurts for backup Tanner McKee.
Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman has always been forward-thinking, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he made a call if Hurts and the offense tank the season.
