Just another Sunday in the ballpark where there were star players showing up for their teams. Their excellence on the field has led to some high yardage and scoring output.
Here are the best Week 6 performances in victories, not losses.
Tadi Abedje’s Top NFL Week 6 Performances
Tom Brady (QB) – New England Patriots
Week Six Stats: 24/35 passing, 340 yards, two total touchdowns
The GOAT would have to come up in the clutch again. First off, he got into a high scoring shootout with Patrick Mahomes and the unstoppable Chiefs offense. Down 33-30 on third and goal, Brady got out from a would be sack from Breeland Speaks and ran for a four-yard touchdown. It would be his second straight week with a rushing TD.
After the Mahomes to Tyreek Hill 75 yard touchdown connection, Brady would get the ball and the last laugh. He would lead a five play drive (2 passes, 3 runs) including the 39 yard pass to Rob Gronkowski that set up the game winning 28 yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski. As a result, Brady became the first QB to have 200 regular season victories on his belt.
Aaron Rodgers (QB) – Green Bay Packers
Week Six Stats: 25/46 passing, 425 yards, two touchdowns
From the best quarterback in the game to the second best in Aaron Rodgers. The Packers were trailing the C.J. Beathard led 49ers squad the entire second half. Then, Green Bay got the ball with three minutes left and no timeouts. Rodgers started off with a deep pass across the field to Davante Adams for 38 yards. Couple of plays later, he would find Adams again for the game tying touchdown on third and six.
After Beathard threw a costly interception, Rodgers – like Brady on Sunday Night – would have the last dance on Monday Night Football. He had an amazing 21 yard run up the middle when no one was open and would spike the ball to stop the clock. Next, he would throw two 19 yard back shoulder fades to Equanimeous St. Brown and Adams to set up Mason Crosby‘s game winning 27-yard field goal. It was the second straight 400 passing game for Rodgers as he does it again.
Todd Gurley (RB) – Los Angeles Rams
Week Six Stats: 28 carries for 208 yards and two touchdowns
The Rams were playing in Denver where it was snowing pregame. That meant running the ball was a priority in inclement weather. Despite the cold weather, Gurley would have the best game of his career. The All-Pro running back ran for over 200 yards against the same Broncos defence that gave up 219 yards to Isaiah Crowell the previous week.
Gurley became the first Rams player since the great Marshall Faulk in 2001 to run for at least 200 yards in a single game. He now leads the league with 870 yards from scrimmage and 11 total touchdowns. This guy is no question the best RB in the NFL as the catalyst of the high powered Rams offence. Gurley is a great candidate to be MVP and/or the Offensive Player of the Year for the 6-0 LA Rams.
Melvin Gordon (RB) – Los Angeles Chargers
Week Six Stats: 18 carries for 132 yards and three touchdowns
Another LA running back balled out before Gurley touched the field. Gordon had a superb game on the road in the Dawg Pound. He ran for 132 yards to 7.3 yards per rush and had a career-high three rushing touchdowns. Keep in mind, Gordon didn’t even sniff the end zone in his rookie year in 2015. Since then he has 24 rushing touchdowns. He has at least one touchdown on the ground in five away games in a row.
The Chargers are a darkhorse team with Gordon running the ball the way he did Sunday and Philip Rivers playing at a high level. LA has a top 10 receiver in Keenan Allen and two big receivers in Mike and Tyrell Williams that can go up and snatch the ball. The Chargers running back is projected to have 90 receptions and 1,800 yards from scrimmage. Gordon will be competing with Gurley for the rushing title.
Adam Thielen (WR) – Minnesota Vikings
Week Six Stats: 11 receptions, 123 yards, one touchdown
The Vikings wideout is playing like he’s the best receiver in the game. Thielen has been a great story from being undrafted to working his way up the ladder and becoming a top-flight player. So far, Thielen is leading the league in receiving with 58 receptions for 712 yards. The 58 balls he caught in the first six games of this year is the most for one team in history. In addition, the Minnesota State alum is averaging a staggering 118.7 receiving yards a game.
Thielen had another 100-yard receiving game this week and the Cardinals were at the end of it. The Vikings receiver now joins Michael Irvin (1995), Calvin Johnson (2012) and Demaryius Thomas (2014) as the only receivers with 100 yards receiving in each of the first six games of the season. It’s more evidence of his dependability, consistency and route running.
