Welcome to this week’s edition of my top five, not yours. The requirements to make the list is to ball out and come out victorious at the same time.
Tadi Abedje’s Top NFL Week 10 Performances
Ben Roethlisberger (Quarterback) – Pittsburgh Steelers
Week Ten Stats: 22/25 passing, 328 yards, five touchdowns, 158.3 QB Rating
What a remarkable performance by arguably the greatest quarterback ever to wear the Black and Yellow. Roethlisberger completed a team record 88 percent of his passes and had more touchdowns than incompletions. He started off with his first pass of the game going 75 yards to the house to JuJu Smith-Schuster off a pump fake. Then, he showed his connection with Antonio Brown, hooking up with him for 53 yard score in the second quarter. Brown was in single coverage versus Panthers’ rookie cornerback Donte Jackson.
The rest of Big Ben’s touchdown throws went to Vance McDonald, Jesse James and Jaylen Samuels. Not even Eric Reid‘s late hit on him could stop Roethlisberger and the Steelers offense in their 52-21 domination. No. 7 improves to 16-3 in since 2014 in primetime games.
Patrick Mahomes (Quarterback) – Kansas City Chiefs
Week Ten Stats: 21/28 passing, 249 yards, two touchdowns
This Patrick Mahomes dude is so unbelievable that he makes my list literally every week. The record breaking would continue when his Chiefs hosted the Cardinals. First off, he was held under 300 yards for the first time since Week 1 against the Chargers and threw two touchdown passes as both of them went to Tyreek Hill. With that, he has 31 touchdown passes on the season surpassing Hall of Famer Len Dawson for the single season record in franchise history.
Also, Mahomes has 3,150 passing yards for the year, which is a league high. On a somber note, he had to skip his press conference because of the death of his girlfriend’s stepfather. Next, the potential MVP and his team will play against the Rams and their MVP candidate Todd Gurley in Mexico City on Monday Night. This could be the game of the year and a Super Bowl preview.
Drew Brees (Quarterback) – New Orleans Saints
Week Ten Stats: 22/25 passing, 265 yards, three touchdowns
From Mahomes to another potential MVP winner in the great Drew Brees. Lets be for real, it was a dominant day for him and his team as they smoked the Bengals 51-14. Brees had only 265 yards on the air but completed a staggering 88 percent of his throws. Earlier this season he passed Peyton Manning for the all time passing yards leader. With Brees’ three touchdown strikes, he moved past Brett Favre for the second most touchdown passes in league history.
He clearly had a whole lot of help with his two headed running attack of Mark Ingram (104 yards rushing and the 28 yard touchdown off a play action screen) and Alvin Kamara (12 carries for 56 yards, two touchdowns, four receptions for 46 yards). His number one option Michael Thomas caught two of his three touchdown passes. The Saints have won eight in a row and are undefeated on the road (5-0).
Nick Chubb (Running Back) – Cleveland Browns
Week Ten Stats: 20 carries for 176 yards and two total touchdowns
When the Browns drafted Nick Chubb out of Georgia, he would originally sit behind Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson Jr. in the starting running back room. Then, Hyde was traded to the Jaguars and Chubb became the lead back. On Sunday against the Falcons, he showed why Cleveland drafted him in the second round. He had his second 100 yard (176) rushing game of his career.
Then, Hyde’s historic moment came with 8:58 in the third quarter. He took a handoff from quarterback Baker Mayfield on a stretch run and went 92 yards for the touchdown. It was the longest run in franchise history surpassing Bobby Mitchell‘s 90 yard run in 1959. It amazing that he has a 63, 41 and now 92 yard rushes for scores which helps his 6.2 yards per carry. Also, his running helps out Mayfield so that he doesn’t have to do it all on his own. Good luck to Cleveland, they got a QB-RB duo for years to come.
Ezekiel Elliott (Running Back) – Dallas Cowboys
Week Ten Stats: 19 carries for 151 yards, two total touchdowns and six catches for 36 yards
What a remarkable performance by the Dallas Cowboys to go into Philadelphia and beat their rival Eagles on Sunday Night led by Ezekiel Elliott. The running back was gashing through the Eagles defense averaging 7.9 yards a rush that led to a 151 yard night. It was the fifth time he ran for over 150 yards since he entered the league in 2016. Also, for Zeke, it was his first multi-touchdown game this season.
His impressive run came in the second quarter when he had open space and hurdled over Eagles safety Tre Sullivan during his 32 yard run. Zeke is still one of the best running backs in the league and is the key to the Dallas offense. Also, they still have one of the best offensive lines that create holes upfront for him. Dak Prescott benefitted from Elliot’s performance with 270 passing yards, one touchdown and a 102.8 passer rating. The Cowboys still have a long way to go to try to get into the postseason but this could be the start.
