Ranking the 7 best Super Bowl 59 matchups
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Detroit Lions
This matchup will be a rematch from the season opener of the 2023 season. The ascending Lions went into Kansas City and knocked off the defending champions on the night they were holding their banner for winning Super Bowl 57. That win catapulted the Lions into contender status, and they have not looked back since.
Both teams finished with a combined record of 30-4 and are each the betting odds favorite in their conferences to get to the Super Bowl.
Buffalo Bills vs. Detroit Lions
This Super Bowl would be a matchup of the week 14 game, a fireworks show between these two teams. The Bills went into Detroit and won 48-42, making it one of the best games of the season.
Josh Allen passed for over 300 yards, while Jared Goff threw for five touchdowns. This electrifying matchup will make an existing Super Bowl in front of the world in February.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Once again, this matchup will be a rematch, as the Ravens took a loss to the Eagles back in week 13. But this matchup offensively would be too enticing not to enjoy if these two teams meet again.
This Super Bowl would be called the “Running Back Renaissance Bowl.” Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry both lead the league in rushing yards, with Barkley rushing for 2,005 yards and Henry rushing for 1,921 yards. Both running backs will be in the MVP discussion.
Also, the quarterback matchups will feature two of the best playmakers at the position, Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson.
LA Rams vs LA Chargers
The battle for LA in LA (Louisiana). Both the Rams and Chargers have a chance to meet in the Super Bowl, and how cool would it be if two teams from the same city who also share a stadium could meet up to play against each other in the Super Bowl?
Jim Harbaugh vs. Sean McVay and Justin Herbert vs. Matthew Stafford would make for a quality matchup.
Buffalo Bills vs. LA Rams
These two teams met in week 14, and it was arguably the best game of the 2024 NFL regular season. LA outdueled Buffalo 44-42 in a game where Allen became the first player in NFL history with three rushing and three passing touchdowns. The Rams didn’t punt once in the game, and the total of 86 points was the highest in a game this season.
Baltimore Ravens vs Detroit Lions
A Ravens and Lions matchup would have a chance of being one of the best Super Bowl matchups if it were to happen. The Ravens matched up with the Lions in the 2023 season and blew out Detroit. Jackson has lost two games in his career against NFC teams, so seeing how the Lions would try to defend the two-time MVP would make for an exciting game.
Washington Commanders vs. Denver Broncos
The rookie quarterback Super Bowl. Two rookie quarterbacks and two first-round picks leading their teams to the big dance would be one of the biggest moments in NFL history. For that reason, a Commanders and Broncos Super Bowl would be enticing the matchup to be filled with history being made.
