We have reached the mid-point of the NFL season, and here are ten Super Bowl contenders.
Super Bowl Contenders
10. Denver Broncos (7-2)
The Denver Broncos are currently in the driver’s seat to win the AFC West this season. If the NFL playoffs were to start today, the Broncos would be the third seed in the AFC. While the Broncos have had some head-scratching performances this season, including a close loss against the New York Jets and a historic fourth-quarter comeback to beat the New York Giants a couple of weeks ago, their profile is hard to ignore.
The Broncos’ defense is currently considered the best in the NFL for 2025. They rank first in defensive success rate via rbsdm.com and are fourth in EPA (expected points added) allowed, as well as fourth in points allowed, allowing only 18.4 points per game. Denver is also second in the NFL in opponent touchdowns allowed per game, with 1.6, and they lead the entire NFL in sacks, with 40.
Denver has a Super Bowl-caliber defense. They will need more consistent play out of Bo Nix if they want to make a run.
9. Indianapolis Colts (7-2)
The Colts hold the top seed in the AFC playoffs and would have a first-round bye if the playoffs started today. Indy has been the surprise of the NFL after having one of the best offenses in the NFL behind a career resurgence of former first-round pick Daniel Jones. Indy stubbed their toe last Sunday in a loss against the Steelers; however, it didn’t change how dominant they have been so far this season.
The Colts have scored the most points in the NFL through the midway point with 290, which is 30 more than the team in second place. They are second in the NFL with two 40-plus point games, and they rank first in EPA per play. Running back Jonathan Taylor is playing like an MVP candidate right now as he leads the NFL in rushing yards with 895, and he has 14 total touchdowns.
8. Seattle Seahawks (6-2)
The Seahawks have proven they are worthy of Super Bowl contention in 2025. They have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, and they have one of the best defenses in the NFL. Sam Darnold has continued his stellar 2024 season into his 2025 season and has the Seahawks with a real chance to win the gauntlet of the NFC West and earn a top seed in the NFC.
7. Baltimore Ravens (3-5)
The record doesn’t reflect that the Ravens are a Super Bowl contender, but They have too much firepower not to be considered a Super Bowl contender. They have one of the highest-scoring offenses in the league when Lamar Jackson plays, and they have an improving defense.
Look out for the Ravens to make a serious run down this second-half stretch of the season.
6. Green Bay Packers (5-2-1)
The Packers may be the most frustrating, talented team in the NFL in 2025. They have two losses to the Browns and Panthers in games they were big favorites in and a tie against the Cowboys. Despite the hiccups, this Packers team is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball to make a Super Bowl run.
5. Kansas City Chiefs (5-4)
Crazy but true, if the playoffs started today, Kansas City would not be in the playoffs. They sit right outside the final wild card spot; however, the Chiefs are among the teams with the best odds to win the Super Bowl according to most sportsbooks.
The start has been far from perfect for the Chiefs, but you simply can’t count out the duo of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. Mahomes is playing his best ball after a couple of down statistical individual seasons. He is among the favorites to win NFL MVP with Mahomes and Reid, the Chiefs will continue to be in the mix for the foreseeable future.
4. Detroit Lions (5-3)
The Lions have one of the best odds to win the NFC and the Super Bowl currently, and it isn’t hard to see why. Detroit has been building a contender for the better part of four years, and they could have the most talented roster on the field any given day, depending on who they match up against.
3. Buffalo Bills (6-2)
The Bills have Josh Allen, and that, in turn, makes you a Super Bowl contender no matter the year. The Bills have one of the best run games in the NFL right now, and Allen is in a good position to win his second MVP.
2. Los Angeles Rams (6-2)
The LA Rams have a case to be the best team in the league right now. They have either the best or second-best head coach/quarterback combo in Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford, and Stafford is playing on another level right now in his 17th season. Stafford has 21 touchdown passes to two interceptions.
The Rams’ defense is also no joke and among the best in the NFL. They allow the second-lowest points per game at 15.9 and have the second-lowest third-down conversion allowed with 33.3 percent. They are also tied for third in sacks with 27.
1. Philadelphia Eagles (6-2)
The Eagles are the reigning Super Champions, so they were going to be a contender by default. Even though everything doesn’t seem to be roses and candy on the offensive side of the ball between Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown, it hasn’t quite turned the Eagles’ season on its head yet.
Philly has possibly the most talented roster in football, and they recently added to it by trading for Jaelan Phillips from the Dolphins. The Eagles know they are contenders and are approaching the season as such.
