PREVIEWING THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

With the 2018 golf season in full swing, pun intended, this week’s challenge is the players championship held at TPC at Sawgrass. There are so many different things that will highlight this weekend as some of the best golfers in the world head to one of the hardest courses in the world. Let’s check out some of the focus points.

THE COURSE ITSELF

TPC at Sawgrass is not only a fitting choice for the players championship. It is also an amazing course that presents a challenge to every skill level of golfer. Designed by Pete and Alice Dye, who have also designed many other beautiful golf courses. It was made to challenge and push a players skill. This is a course that is even daunting in video games and simulators. So to play the actual course in all sorts of weather conditions against friends and rivals alike. The par three, seventeenth hole is one of the most famous in the golf world. A precarious circle surrounded by water with a narrow path leading to it. The potential for a ball going in the water is immense. Many a player has lost balls and strokes on this one hole, and since it is so late in the course, it can change the field quickly.

STAR POWER

This Thursday and Friday one of the biggest draws will be the threesome of Tiger Woods, Pbil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler. Rickie Fowler himself said he has the best view to watch Tiger and Phil play against each other side by side. While there have been more recent times that they have practiced together. This is the first time they have played side by side since 2014. When they have played together they seem to inspire each other and play very equally. It will be great to see how they perform at the players championship along with some of the other top draws.

Jason Day who won last weeks tournament is paired with Sergio Garcia and Henrick Stenson. Will he be able to take last week’s momentum and utilize it here? With a more difficult course it will be interesting to see.

WEATHER AND COURSE CONDITIONS

The forecast for the players championship weekend is very warm, averaging around eighty degrees with some humidity and winds averaging ten mph. All of these things can affect the play of even the most seasoned golfer. It is very important to keep yourself hydrated so you can focus properly on the course. The winds may not seem like a lot, but to a long drive it can still be a factor. However the greens should play well, being dry and immaculately maintained.

LAST WORD

With a huge list of the who’s who of the golf world playing this week. There will be a great chance to see highlights. Be they amazing shots, putts from long distances or even shots so bad they are worth watching again and again. As always every tournament gains points towards the coveted number one ranking and fedex cup points. So every round played is important. Miss too many and by sheer volume you will fall behind in the points standing. Hope you all enjoy the weekend.
