Dodgers Offseason Roundup

Pretty Cheap Deal, Huh?

It’s official, Teoscar Hernandez is back with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He’s back on a 3-year, $66 million deal, and with the Dodgers being the deferral capital of baseball, Hernandez has $23 million on his deal deferred. Thanks for being such a team player Teo.

It was certain that the Dodgers were going to sign him because there was literally no one left on the market. Juan Soto went bye-bye to the New York Mets and Tyler O’Neill went to the Baltimore Orioles. Bryan De La Cruz went to the Atlanta Braves and Austin Slater went to the Chicago White Sox. Yes, there were Seiya Suzuki rumors, and there still will be, but the Dodgers needed Hernandez badly, and you know what Andrew Friedman likes to do.

There were a few discrepancies. With Hernandez in extreme talks with the Boston Red Sox and the Dodgers signing Michael Conforto, many thought this was it for Hernandez and the Dodgers. Don’t even forget about the circling Suzuki rumors (https://x.com/Sports__Square/status/1872863798652289499).

But, the most surprising thing about this whole “situation” is that Hernandez signed for pretty cheap. Yes, I mock Teoscar’s Baseball Savant page a lot, but for what we see when he plays, for the things he brings to that clubhouse, he should be worth way more than $22 million a year.

This doesn’t mean the Dodgers outfield holes have been solved. Even with the signing of Hernandez and Conforto, Mookie Betts has moved on from RF, and Conforto being the option is not a good idea. Going after Suzuki can really help your team get Roki Sasaki, but going after Luis Robert Jr. can get you another stud. If you had to make a decision between

Roki Sasaki and Luis Robert Jr., who would you choose?

Roki Sasaki Rumors

I’ve been covering Sasaki for the past few weeks now, and his Chicago Cubs chances are slowly decreasing, making huge ways for the Dodgers. Yes, the Cubs had huge chances to land him, but more and more info is being revealed that Dodgers players are making a push for him to come to LAD.

It’ll make the team a whole lot better for sure, but my question becomes, will they turn out bad? The NPB is lower than the MLB in level, but not by a lot. In fact, if owners continue to be like how they are right now, then there is a huge possibility that the NPB will become more competitive than the MLB. But, at this point, the MLB is still higher, and the concern is will Sasaki succeed in this environment if you’re locking him up for six years? That was the same concern with Yoshinobu Yamamoto and it bled through.

Instead, if you go with a guy like Corbin Burnes, who’s already succeeded in an MLB environment, you already know that he’s going to help your team big time, and that kind of guarantee, plus the fact that he’s an American player, gives you a situation where you can still spend money on others, but also give the pitcher who’s successful, a fat amount of money.

I honestly don’t know if this made sense, but I hope you see what I mean. I don’t care if we sign Sasaki. Like I said, it’ll improve our team. But, I would prefer someone who’s already been in the league and is in free agency, so that we can get an actual guarantee.

MLB Signings and Other Stuff

There haven’t been many Dodgers rumors I’ve heard of in the last couple of days, so I’m just going to put out the latest MLB signings.

  • The Tigers agreed to a minor league contract with left-hander Dietrich Enns.
  • The Philadelphia Phillies signed relievers Nabil Crismatt and Guillo Zuñiga to minor league contracts.
  • Mets officially announced the signing of left-hander Sean Manaea to a three-year deal.
  • The Red Sox agreed to a minor league contract with right-hander Noah Davis.
  • A’s president Dave Kaval announced Friday that he’s resigning from his role in order to “pursue new business opportunities in California.”
