PGA Mexico Championship Preview

This weekend is the Mexico Championship, and with less than a month until the first day of spring. Thoughts are turning to warm weather and the sounds of birdies and eagles. That sound a little corny? Well mayhap, but still, this weekend is primed to be another great weekend of golf. Let’s take a look at what we can look forward to.

PGA Mexico Championship Preview

Where Are They Playing This Week?

The Mexico Championship is playing at the beautiful, serene Club de Golf Chapultepec, in Mexico City, Mexico. This time of the year, the pros and amateurs of the golf world get the opportunity to travel to some of the best courses around the world as they wait for the weather to warm up in the United States. And this course will not only see the men of the PGA tour this week. But also the women of the PGA tour next weekend. The course also boasts a picturesque view of the many tree lined fairways. Challenging golfers to stay tight and accurate as they try to outdistance each other. With the weather expected to be in the seventies and no rain predicted. It should be great conditions for the tournament.

Who Has Momentum?

Obviously, after winning last week’s Genesis Open, J.B. Holmes has a great amount of it, after being able to hold on while Justin Thomas slid four strokes to finish in second place. But many of the crowd favorites are also doing well. One of the bigger highlights of last weekend was when Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson both got an eagle within two minutes of each other. This weekend also marks the first time Tiger has competed in Mexico. So local fans get to see him live for the first time. There were also many amazing shots out of bunkers and other hazards as the weather played a much bigger role in last week’s tournament. So one would think if there were so many great highlights in difficult conditions, there may be even more in better conditions.

Younger Players and New Rules

Even though the season is still very new. There have already been some not so great highlights as well as a rule change that has gotten an awful lot of media attention. Specifically, a change to the clothing rule that allows players to wear shorts during practice rounds and pro-am tournaments. Critics of this change worry that as more and more younger players enter the field, many of the rules will be changed. Taking away from the old time feel of the sport which has lasted for centuries. Whether or not this happens will be debated indefinitely. However, keeping it debated will help ensure that the basic feel and rule of the game stays the same.

Last Word

The Mexico Championship will be great watching over this coming weekend, and while it is still very early to think of the end of the season standings. There is the overall importance that every tournament leads to what will be the final standings. With only two months until the Masters, each and every golfer will want to show his skill and set himself up as the man to beat. Fore.
