Baltimore Orioles Breakout First Basemen Becoming Surprise Trade Prize

For some strange reason, in 2023 and 2024, the Baltimore Orioles were dominant. The O’s were able to put together two postseason teams and looked pretty good while doing it. However, in 2025, the Orioles have collapsed, falling to a 24-36 record so far. As a result, Baltimore is definitely set to sell at the trade deadline, and the O’s have an exciting player that could get them a significant return.

Orioles Have a Sidnificant Trade Chip Ahead of the Deadline

Ryan O’Hearn’s Breakout Season Has Caught Many Teams’ Attention

Ryan O’Hearn has never really been an absolute star for the Orioles. In fact, O’Hearn has usually been a role player, hitting 14 and 15 home runs with a respectable average in two full seasons with Baltimore. However, this season has been quite different for the upcoming free agent.

O’Hearn has managed to hit .328 so far this season with considerable power, as he also has nine home runs. Although O’Hearn doesn’t possess Pete Alonso power, he has no doubt been one of the few good things for Baltimore this season. Many teams lack a first baseman overall, which ultimately makes O’Hearn a big target. Perhaps if O’Hearn is able to maintain his high average and still hit with some power, there might be many teams coming to knock on Baltimore’s door.

Some Hopeful Teams Could Bring Baltimore a Big Return

One very interesting team could be the Boston Red Sox. The Sox have a torn up infield at the moment, especially at first base. Instead of play first base, Rafael Devers told Boston to go fly a kite and find themselves another player. The result was Boston acquiring mediocre first baseman Abraham Toro. Even though Toro’s first few games haven’t been bad, the Red Sox would probably prefer a player like O’Hearn. Other teams also could try to go after a first baseman such as the Seattle Mariners. Overall, one of the top positions that can be sought at the deadline is first base.

If the Orioles are smart, then they could trade a few players, including O’Hearn in order to get some MLB ready players and improve their young and dynamic talent. One thing that needs fixing is the rotation, and getting some young pitchers could be a top priority for Baltimore.

Baltimore Has a Lot to Sell

Perhaps one name that is even bigger than O’Hearn is Cedric Mullins. Mullins is starting finally hit for power and has been a major part of the Orioles for a long time. After an amazing 2021 season, Mullins didn’t really repeat his success in 2022, 2023, and even 2024. However, so far in 2025, Mullins has managed to hit 10 home runs in just 50 games. Now, of course, Mullins is currently on the IL. However, Mullins should still remain effective after he returns from injury and remain a top trade target.

In addition to this, the Orioles also possess pitchers like Zach Eflin and Tomoyuki Sugano, who would probably be very intriguing for teams at the deadline. Unfortunately for Baltimore, the one thing that people know is that Baltimore needs to sell at the deadline. The young team overall failed to put together a good rotation in the offseason and hasn’t made up for losing key players Corbin Burnes and Anthony Santander.

Overall, one very interesting player that could attract a lot of attention at the deadline is O’Hearn. Of course, the reality is at the moment that there is no postseason in 2025 for Baltimore. A trade that is effective is no doubt needed for Baltimore. One thing is for sure, anything could help Baltimore, especially a trade that is effective.
