Three underdogs who can pull off upsets on the week 5 NFL slate.
Three Teams Who Can Pull Off Upsets in NFL Week 5 Slate
Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos (+4.5) at Philadelphia Eagles (-4.5)
The Denver Broncos go on the road to take on the defending champions, and they have a good chance of pulling off an upset. The Eagles have been having issues offensively. They ranked 30th in the league in yards per game and 31st in the league in passing yards per game. In the second half during their win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Eagles had only negative two yards offensively.
It’s clear Philly is still struggling to find its footing offensively, and with a defense like the Broncos, they can capitalize on Philly’s stagnant offense to propel them to a win. Denver is third in the NFL with a 10.07 sack percentage. Since the 2024 season, the Broncos have the most sacks in the league, and they also rank ninth this season in opponents’ passing yards allowed per game.
Denver has what it takes defensively to make the Eagles uncomfortable, and they can do enough offensively to be able to skate by with a win if it’s a low-scoring affair.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Kanas City Chiefs (-3) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (+3)
The Jags are 3-1 and are tied for the AFC South division lead and are home underdogs against the Chiefs coming off a strong win against the Baltimore Ravens. Jacksonville is coming off a quality win of its own, having gone on the road and taken down the San Francisco 49ers.
Under first-year head coach Liam Coen, the offense has been a mixed bag of results so far; however, on the defensive side, the Jags rank among the league’s best. At the moment, the Jags lead the entire NFL in takeaways with 13, which includes a league-leading nine interceptions and a league-leading lowest passer rating allowed with 69. They are fifth in the league, allowing 18 points per game. Jacksonville will undoubtedly have to force Patrick Mahomes into an interception or two if they want to position themselves for a home underdog win.
Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders (+2.5) at Los Angeles Chargers (-2.5)
The Commanders will head west for a matchup with the Chargers as slight underdogs, but have the capability to go back to D.C. with a win. For starters, star quarterback Jayden Daniels will make his return from injury after missing two games with a knee injury. Daniels, who is also a California native, will provide a big spark back to a Commanders team that took a tough loss to the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday with backup quarterback Marcus Mariota.
Back-to-back road games will be tough to manage for Washington, but they are running into a beat-up Chargers team. LA is already without their left tackle, Rashawn Slater, for the season, and right tackle turned left tackle Joe Alt suffered a high ankle sprain and will be out for a couple of weeks as well. Guard Mekhi Becton is in concussion protocol, and if the Commanders want to snag a win out west, it will have to start with dominating a decimated Chargers offensive line.
The Chargers have a nice stable of playmakers, but if quarterback Justin Herbert doesn’t have time to throw, it won’t matter.
