As season continues into week 3, there have been some major disappointments and surprises. From the San Diego Padres emergence to the New York Yankees surprising slump, the power rankings have no doubt changed this week. Let’s rank all the teams from best to worst:
MLB Power Rankings
1. San Diego Padres (13-3)
The Dodgers finally fall from the final spot thanks to the Padres. Not only does San Diego own the best record in the MLB, San Diego also has won 4 in a row. The Padres look great after week 3.
2. New York Mets (10-5)
Why are the New York Met’s ranked higher than so many teams? Simply put, since the Met’s opening weekend series loss to the Houston Astros, the Met’s haven’t lost a series. Meanwhile, the Met’s also have the best record in the last ten games, as no other team matches New York’s record of 8-2 in their last ten. The offense is alive (as is Kodai Senga), and New York looks great.
3. San Francisco Giants (11-4)
The San Francisco Giant’s don’t have the best record in the MLB anymore. However, San Francisco still looks strong, especially after a great series victory over the Yankees. The Giant’s look like the team to beat at the moment.
4. Los Angeles Dodgers (11-6)
The Dodgers fall several spots for losing two series. Not to mention, the Dodgers also forgot they weren’t playing football as they lost 16-0 and 8-2 over the last week. The only thing the Dodgers proved over the last week is that their rotation can be a problem moving forward.
5. Arizona Diamondbacks (9-7)
The Arizona Diamondbacks didn’t really earn this spot in the power rankings. Honestly, it feels as if every team in the MLB past the Mets, Giants, and Padres, is underperforming. However, regardless, the Diamondbacks still look great with a couple of series victories.
6. Philadelphia Phillies (9-6)
At the moment, the Philadelphia Phillies haven’t done anything to impressive. With a record of 5-5 in their last 10, the Phil’s need to perform better. Overall, nothing much has happened with Philadelphia in the last week.
7. Chicago Cubs (11-7)
The Chicago Cub’s look pretty good after a series victory against the Dodgers. One very important note: the offense may be the deadliest in the league at the moment (after Saturday, the Chicago Bears may ask for notes on how to get better at offense).
8. Detroit Tigers (9-6)
The Detroit Tigers deserve some great respect for their series victory over the Yankees. Also, not only was the series victory over the Yankees impressive, Detroit has also been raking lately. With a record of 7-3 in their last ten, the Tiger deserve to rank higher this week.
9. New York Yankees (8-7)
After some torpedo magic, the Yankees seriously regressed. New York lost series against the Giants and Tigers and did so in ugly fashion. New York must look to prove itself to be better to gain a higher ranking than nine.
10. Texas Rangers (9-7)
The Texas Rangers were simply rolling into week 2, winning every series. However, the Rangers looked terrible against the Seattle Mariners. Hopefully the Rangers can bounce back over the next week.
11. Kansas City Royals (8-8)
The Kansas City Royals certainly didn’t explode over the last week into a great team. However, the Royals did better than not, with some especially good offensive performances. Over the last week, the Royals didn’t look bad at all.
12. Seattle Mariners (8-8)
The ranking of number 12 is quite high for a team that was ranked number 22 last week. However, Seattle earned it’s ranking by convincing performances, including a sweep of the Rangers and a flex of offensive muscles.
13. Los Angeles Angels (9-6)
The Los Angeles Angels have been 5-5 in their last ten, so in other words have been mediocre after a stronger start than not. However, with Mike Trout healthy and other players performing better, the Angles look good. The Angels can’t ask for a better start than 9-6.
14. Boston Red Sox (8-9)
Over the last week, it feels as if the Boston Red Sox have lost much of their flame that they acquired from a winning streak last week. The Red Sox look mediocre, especially after a series loss to the Chicago White Sox (ahem, wow).
15. Toronto Blue Jays (9-7)
Despite leading the AL East so far, the Toronto Blue Jays look mediocre. Toronto did rebound a little after a sweep at the hands of the Mets. However, the Blue Jays still didn’t do much to prove anything. The Blue Jays also have a 5-5 record in their last ten.
16. Milwaukee Brewers (8-8)
Really, the Milwaukee Brewers sit right in the middle of the pack still. After an 0-4 start, the Brew Crew rebounded to an 8-6 record. And then lost two in a row to prove their.. Mediocre for now, as so many teams are at the moment.
17. Cleveland Guardians (8-7)
The Cleveland Guardians looked much better over the last week. However, Cleveland only moves up one spot thanks to the fact that Cleveland swept the White Sox, who are easy to sweep. Overall, Cleveland still looked good though.
18. Cincinnati Reds (8-8)
The Cincinnati Reds looked just fine over the last week. The one thing that the Reds looked especially good at- offense. Hopefully the Reds can continue their winning streak and continue to climb up the rankings.
19. Houston Astros (7-8)
The Houston Astros haven’t done much after a series victory over the Met’s to begin the season. However, an offensive explosion against the Angels may point to better times ahead for the Astros. Perhaps Isaac Paredes can be a worthy replacement?
20. Baltimore Orioles (6-9)
There seems to be one major problem for the Baltimore Orioles- pitching. The O’s offense is still powerful, however, the rotation’s ability to keep up may not be that good. After being ranked high to begin the season, the O’s haven’t done anything impressive yet in 2025.
21. St. Louis Cardinals (7-8)
The St. Louis Cardinals two haven’t really changed over the last week. The Cardinals 3-0 start to the season has disappeared though as the team seems to be heading into mediocrity. One good note: a series victory over the Phillies on the road.
22. Tampa Bay Rays (7-8)
Although the Tampa Bay Rays have been 3-7 in their last ten, the Rays looked impressive against the Atlanta Braves. The Rays as a team don’t look too talented. However, Tampa Bay’s hope is simply to improve this season and gain young stars, which is a feasible goal.
23. Washington Nationals (6-9)
Although the Nationals record didn’t really improve at all over the week, the Nationals accomplished something not many teams have. Somehow, the Nat’s managed to stomp the Dodgers while James Wood proved that he can be the next Juan Soto. Not a bad week overall for the Nat’s.
24. Miami Marlins (8-7)
Really, the Miami Marlins do deserve some respect for retaining a positive record so far. The Marlins series loss against New York didn’t surprise anyone. However, technically, the Marlins how won three out of it’s last four and looked good against the Nationals.
25. Atlanta Braves (4-11)
The Atlanta Braves ranking didn’t change for one large reason: the Braves have failed to put together two in a row wins. The Braves basically won and lost and then won and lost over the last week. Another unimpressive thing: the Braves looked terrible against the Rays. With the third worst record in the MLB, how can one rank Atlanta much higher than this?
26. Athletics (6-10)
The Athletics looked pretty bad over the last week. Not only did the A’s lose to the Padres, the A’s also lost to the Met’s. Now, these two losses’ aren’t that bad, as those two teams are among the best in the league at the moment. However, the A’s defense looked terrible against the Met’s, as the team committed two errors and embarrassed themselves over the weekend.
27. Pittsburgh Pirates (5-11)
The Pittsburgh Pirates were probably excited after a series victory over the Cardinals. However, then the Pirates got swept by the Red’s and proved why they… well, stink. The Pirates offense is not to mention horrible, as they own the worst batting average in the league.
28. Minnesota Twins (5-11)
The Minnesota Twins were a good team. Emphasis on “were”. Now, the Twins offense is terrible and the team itself is lackluster. Next up? The Mets, who have the best ERA by far so far, that won’t be hard for the Twins, who only have one the worst offense’s in the MLB so far.
29. Chicago White Sox (4-11)
The only reason the White Sox don’t rank as the worst team is because they finally won a series. Overall though, the White Sox are a terrible team.
30. Colorado Rockies (3-12)
The Colorado Rockies haven’t been that bad this season. They only have the second worst ERA, one of the worst batting average’s in the league, and last but not least the worst record. For now, the Rockies are the worst in the league.
