Just like that, we have reached the end of the first-half of the 2018 MLB season. It has certainly been a thriller to this point. The second half is gearing up to be just as entertaining. To this point in the season, here are the winners of the MLB first-half awards.
AL MVP: Mookie Betts, BOS
Mookie and J.D. Martinez are CARRYING the Red Sox offense. The 25 year old has broken out in a HUGE way thus far in 2018. Betts is hitting .359/.448/.691 with 25 doubles, 18 stolen bases, 23 home runs, 51 RBI’s, an OPS of 1.139, and an OPS+ of 200.
NL MVP: Nolan Arenado, COL
The Rockies are just two game out of first place in the NL West, and a ton of the credit can be given to Arenado. He is enjoying a tremendous year, and should finally take home an MVP award. Over 90 games, he is slashing .312/.395/.586 with 21 doubles, 23 home runs, and 68 RBI’s.
AL Cy Young: Chris Sale, BOS
Sale is the first pitcher to make three consecutive ASG starts since Robin Roberts. He is enjoying another Cy Young type year, posting a record of 10-4 with 188 strikeouts, a 2.23 ERA, and a 0.89 WHIP over 129 innings.
NL Cy Young: Jacob deGrom, NYM
DeGrom has had a tremendous first-half of the regular season. He certainly deserves to start the All-Star game, but was snubbed due to Max Scherzer starting at home. Over 123.1 innings, he has a 1.68 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 149 strikeouts over 123.1 innings.
AL ROY: Gleyber Torres, NYY
Torres has been an absolute star since being promoted to the big leagues. In fact, after playing just 63 games he was named to the All Star team. Over those 63 games, Torres is hitting .294/.350/.555 with 10 doubles, 15 home runs, and 42 RBI’s. Torres is going to be a star in the majors for a long time.
NL ROY: Juan Soto, WAS
The 19-year old has thrived since joining the Nationals. In 51 games, he is hitting .301/.411/.517 with 11 doubles, 9 home runs, 28 RBI’s, a .929 OPS, and 149 OPS+. Soto is going to be the future of the Washington Nationals outfield.
