Mets' outfielder Juan Soto could be a really MVP threat

Mets Star Slugger Emerging as Legit MVP Threat

After a pretty bad start to the 2025 season, Mets star slugger Juan Soto has turned it on. From being on pace for 25 homers and a .220 average, to now having 21 homers and an average that is near .270 (was .220). Soto is starting to turn into a legitimate threat for the NL MVP.

Juan Soto’s Numbers are Only Getting Better

Juan Soto began the season with just eight home runs and a low average. Soto was starting to get home run conscious and was often grounded out. However, suddenly, in June, Soto had one of his best months of his career. Soto hit 11 home runs with a .322 average. The On Base Percentage was also .474, an insanely good number.

After June, it is clear that Soto’s numbers are only getting better. Soto’s average has started to go way up after batting .232 in April and .219 in May. So far in July, Soto has batted .429. If Soto can manage his numbers when it comes to power and also hit for average, Soto will undoubtedly become an MVP candidate. The one key component that could significantly impact the outcome is Soto’s average.

If Soto hits 35-40 home runs and bats around .280, then there is a huge case to make Soto the MVP.

Soto Has Finished High In MVP Voting Multiple Times

In 2021, Soto had an outstanding season, batting .313 with 29 home runs. Soto finished second in NL MVP voting. In 2024, Soto had a career-high 41 home runs and a .288 average, finishing third in MVP voting. Despite never winning an MVP, Soto has consistently placed high in MVP voting.

This year could be different for Soto, who could be on his way to a career year. Soto is still going to have to hit homers and bat for a higher average. However, with the way Soto performed in June, why can’t he? Soto is a once-in-a-generational player. One might think that this is an overstatement. However, not many can walk as many bases as Soto and hit as many home runs while maintaining a high batting average at the same time.

Soto Has More Than Just Power and Walks

Soto has more than just power and walks to add to his resume. Soto has also managed to play not bad defense in right field and has provided good speed. Soto has sneakily stole 10 bases this season with just one caught stealing. It seems that Soto has provided the Mets with some good things that not many could have predicted.

In the NL, another thing is that the amount of competition isn’t impossible to beat. Some players are having pretty good seasons. However, no 50/50 season should be here in 2025 to ruin Soto’s chances. Soto also has the ability to outlast other competitors because Soto is Juan Soto.

Many players, such as Pete Crow-Armstrong, have performed very well. However, Soto still can beat out the young stud because of Soto’s proven track record. Something that Soto has is the ability to be a consistent hitter, which will only improve Soto’s chances. If Soto can do just a little bit of what he did in June, than there very well could be an new MVP.

Soto has the ability to win the MVP and with some consistency can definitely be in massive contention for the award. All Soto needs to do is continue such great dominance he has found.
