NFL insider Adam Schefter has reported that San Francisco 49ers standout wide receiver Jauan Jennings wants a contract extension or else he would like to be traded. If Jennings were to be traded, here are five teams that could be interested
Jennings had a breakout season for the 49ers last year, finishing with 77 catches, 975 yards, and six touchdowns. His big season came off the back of a year where injuries to key players forced Jennings to step into a bigger role, and he thrived. Jennings slotted into a big role again this season, with Deebo Samuel traded and Brandon Aiyuk currently recovering from a torn ACL, and he believes he has outplayed his current $7.5 million cap hit.
Last offseason, Jennings was a restricted free agent and was extended to a two-year contract worth up to $15.4 million with a year left. Jennings wants to either be extended once again or traded to a team that will likely extend him. Here are five NFL teams that make sense for Jennings.
Trade Destinations for Jauan Jennings
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers have made it clear this year that they will go all in on what is likely to be Aaron Rodgers‘ last season in the NFL. After trading for DK Metcalf and trading away George Pickens, the Steelers could use another playmaker, and Jennings’ tough, rugged style of play fits the Steelers organization. Jennings and Metcalf would be a formidable receiver duo in the AFC, which they will need to compete with the elites in the conference.
The Steelers are currently in the top five teams with the most projected cap space for the 2026 season, so that an extension wouldn’t be a problem for Pittsburgh. They also currently have the most projected draft capital in the 2026 draft, even after making trades for players such as Jalen Ramsey.
New York Jets
The Jets don’t have much talent at wide receiver outside of Garrett Wilson. Defenses will key in on Wilson forcing others on the perimeter to beat them, and the Jets adding someone like Jennings will help take the pressure away from Wilson.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans are about to embrace the Cam Ward era after drafting him number one overall in this year’s draft. With that said, one way to help a young quarterback is to provide him with playmakers. The Titans do have notable veterans such as Calvin Ridley and Tyler Lockett, but not much else after them. Jennings could upgrade the Titans’ playmaker room and give top pick Ward another weapon to throw to.
New England Patriots
The Patriots just need to add as many playmakers as they can to their offense at any skill position to help 2024 third overall pick Drake Maye. New England signed Stefon Diggs this offseason, and even though Diggs is a productive veteran, he is coming off a torn ACL. Other notable names in the Patriots’ wide receiver room include Mack Hollins, Kayshon Boutte, and Ja’Lynn Polk. Arguably, Jennings would instantly be the top playmaker on the Patriots if the team were to trade for him and extend him.
Jennings plays a style of football that Patriots coach Mike Vrabel adores. As a hard-nosed football coach, Vrabel would love all the small things Jennings will do, like throwing extra blocks in the run game.
Los Angeles Chargers
Adding Jennings to the receiver core, along with Ladd McConkey, would give Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert a pair of solid outside receivers. The Chargers also have former standout Mike Williams, rookie Tre Harris, and third-year receiver Quentin Johnston. In the second year of Jim Harbaugh‘s leadership, Jennings could fit in nicely on the team.
