The Georgia Bulldogs faced off against the Vanderbilt Commodores in week one of the college football regular season. The Bulldogs won the contest 30-6. Impact Players From the Georgia Bulldogs’ Week One Victory
D’Andre Swift, RB
Swift is considered to be one of the best young running backs in the nation right now. He has a strong case to be drafted in the top rounds of the NFL draft if and when he declares. In week one, Swift rushed for 147 yards on sixteen carries. Despite not scoring a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ opener, Swift averaged 9.2 yards per carry.
Swift is one of many talented running backs on Georgia, but he is the leader of the group. Swift has the potential to rush for 2,000 yards this season and with the offensive line in front of him, he has a strong chance.
The Offensive Line
The Georgia offensive line is one of the best in the country. Led by their tackle Andrew Thomas, the Georgia offensive line dominates at the line of scrimmage. Georgia is known for producing some of the best running backs currently in the NFL. The names include Todd Gurley, Nick Chubb, and Sony Michel. These players succeed in Georgia not only due to their own skill but the skill of the offensive lines that Georgia puts in front of them.
Thomas is a potential top-five pick in the upcoming NFL draft. The other Georgia offensive linemen are also extremely talented and their work upfront helped Georgia dominate Vanderbilt.
Rodrigo Blankenship, K
Blankenship has been a consistent kicker for Georgia throughout his college career. The senior kicker has been through many moments these past few seasons and in his final season opener, he put up three field goals and three extra points for a total of 12 points out of Georgia’s total of 30. These three field goals included a 50-yard field goal. Blankenship is extremely reliable and that helps Georgia in close games knowing they can trust Blankenship to kick from distance.
Jake Fromm, QB
Jake Fromm is the perfect quarterback for this Georgia offense. He is one of the smartest quarterbacks in college football and his ability to read defenses and change plays at the line of scrimmage is reminiscent of Aaron Rodgers. Fromm is consistently accurate despite not having the strongest arm. He can make almost any throw asked of him.
Fromm does a great job letting his team’s elite running backs do the bulk of the work and making sure he is ready when called upon. Georgia’s receivers are no slouches either. Fromm has shown over the past two seasons that he will rarely turn the ball over and will lead the offense to points on most drives. Georgia had six scoring drives and only punted twice in their victory against Vanderbilt.
Last Word
The Bulldog’s offense is the lifeline of their team. Georgia’s defense is also solid. Their defense isn’t elite, but they get the job done. Georgia only recorded two sacks and did not force a turnover. If they are going to succeed this season and make the college football playoffs, they will need to rely on their offense to score points and hope their defense can keep up. With players like Swift, Fromm, and Thomas on their offense, Georgia is a threat to beat any team in college football.
