Giants Fire Farhan Zaidi, Buster Posey Named Successor – Fan Reactions

The San Francisco Giants finished the regular season 80-82 and decided changes needed to be made. Announced this morning the Giants have decided to fire former president of operations Farhan Zaidi and replace him with Buster Posey. Posey is a former MVP and a three-time World Series champion as a player for the Giants, now he’s president of ops for the Giants. Posey has no experience in the front office, so this is a huge leap from the field to the business side of baseball. Regardless of his experience Giants fans are excited to see the franchise legend take over.

Giants Fire Farhan Zaidi, Buster Posey Named Successor – Fan Reactions

The Giants failed to make the playoffs five of the last six seasons under Zaidi. He failed to build upon the record-setting 2021 season that the Giants had. Zaidi failed to build a team that wasn’t below average. The Giants ownership felt it was time to make significant changes to the front office. This move has been in the making for a while now. The Matt Chapman extension was the first inklings of Zaidi’s firing coming to fruition.

Reports came out that Chapman was frustrated with Zaidi and that Posey took control of the extension negotiations. Although reports later came out expressing that Posey’s initial involvement was greatly overstated. This was a sign from ownership that they were unhappy with Zaidi. They wanted to show Posey’s involvement as a direct failure of Zaidi’s ability to secure the deal the franchise wanted. Even more, reports flooded out about how Zaidi was being evaluated for the team’s performance over the last few games of the season. It ended up being inevitable that Zaidi would be out of the job after the final game of the season.

Posey’s stepping into this role was surprising for a lot of fans, but it also generated tons of excitement. A franchise legend has stepped into the role of returning this team to its championship ways. In 2022, Posey rejoined the Giants through buying an ownership stake in the team.

I can be a sounding board to Larry and to Farhan. I think it’s important. By no means am I trying to take on the role of front office and be in the trenches,” Posey said. “It’s more like a sounding board, a thought partner with Greg. I’m excited to work alongside all the owners and try to put the best product on the field possible.

It was clear that Posey was at first not into the idea of being involved in the day-to-day of the front office. As he spent more time involved with the team he probably felt that he could take on more responsibility with the roster. It was only natural as his involvement with the team built up that he would take on this role of baseball operations. The players respect Posey and he has an eye for the best talent around the league.

Giants fans have loved this movie since its announcement on social media. They all hold great respect for who Posey is and what he has meant to this organization. The fans have also wanted change after missing the playoffs again. Below are the overwhelmingly positive reactions to the Posey hiring.

It’s about time you got rid of Farhan Zaidi (I’ll actually start going to games again)

Let’s go!! Really excited about this. It’s fine that Buster doesn’t have any previous FO experience. He’s someone who’s universally respected across all of baseball and can easily connect with the players. He’s a fan favorite too so gives some much needed energy for the fanbase https://t.co/B0IJAcbhBU
