Four Reasons the New York Mets Were Successful in April

The New York Mets were successful over the first month of the season. In the month of April, the Mets had a record of 17-9, which was good enough to be the second best record in the National League. They also sit atop the NL East with a 1.5 game lead over the Braves and Phillies. The Mets have truly played some tremendous baseball over the first month. Here are four of the biggest reasons why the Mets were successful in April.

Comeback Kids

This 2018 Mets team has a certain vibe to them. If this team falls behind in a game, they fight right back. Through the first month of the season, the Mets have 10 come from behind wins. Yoenis Cespedes has played a huge part in that, as a handful of his 25 RBI’s have been on game winning hits. This team has guts, and Mickey Callaway has them fighting from the first pitch, up until the very last one.

Todd Frazier

The Mets offense, and team as a whole has a completely different vibe to them this year. This definitely has to do with the addition of Todd Frazier to the clubhouse. Frazier is a high energy guy, and has sparked some fire under his teammates. Just with the salt-and-pepper celebration alone, Todd Frazier has made the 2018 Mets a very fun team to watch.

Asdrubal Cabrera

Without a double, the MVP of the first month for the Mets is Asdrubal Cabrera. Since he has joined the Mets, Cabrera has been a consistent performer offensively. This year, he has proven to be healthy, and is producing at an unreal pace. He seems to be on-base every game, and has produced some big hits.

Health

The biggest key of all for the Mets thus far, is that they have stayed mostly healthy. The Mets are a very good ball club on paper, they just have to stay healthy. That is a statement that has been said all off-season long. Anthony Swarzak has been on the disabled list since the second game, and Jason Vargas just returned from a hand injury. If this Mets team can stay healthy, the rest of the league better watch out.
