Buffalo Bills week 9

Four Buffalo Bills Priorities Against The Miami Dolphins

The Buffalo Bills’ week seven matchup is against the winless Miami Dolphins. While no win is guaranteed in the NFL, the Bills are heavily favored. While in Miami for this week’s game, there are a few things Buffalo needs to accomplish to truly walk away feeling like they won. Josh Allen is the focal point of these things as his season has been up and down to this point. While Buffalo currently sits at 4-1, its record has not come easy against some of the NFL bottom tier franchises. Here are four things Buffalo needs to do against the Miami Dolphins.

Four Buffalo Bills Priorities Against The Miami Dolphins

Josh Allen Throws for 300 Yards in A Game

Josh Allen has been the man in Buffalo for a full season’s worth of games now. In that span of games, Allen has never thrown for more than 300 yards in a single game. This is a feat that is nearly commonplace in the NFL today. With quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson making this a weekly event, Allen has got to show he can keep up against the NFL’s top passers. The Dolphins are the perfect opportunity to accomplish this task for the first time. Getting the first one out of the way should grow Allen’s confidence heading into the most important part of the season.

Allen Limits Turnovers

Josh Allen has had a fair amount of turnovers to start the season. Allen has turned the ball over in four of the Bills’ first five games this season. This includes each of their last three games. Allen needs to show he can keep it clean for a full 60 minutes more than once this season. With 12 turnovers in five games this season, Allen needs to have a turnover-free game against one of the NFL’s worst defenses. Heading into the Bills’ toughest stretch of games in 2019, the confidence boost would go a long way for Allen and the Bills’ offense.

Establish Pass Rush

The Buffalo Bills have established themselves as one of the NFL top defensive units this season. Buffalo prides themselves on their ability to limit the opponent’s offense, but their ability to get to the quarterback hasn’t been at that elite level this season. Buffalo has 12 sacks through five games this season which ranks 21st in the NFL. Jerry Hughes is as good as he’s ever been, but increasing his sack total would be a nice addition to Buffalo’s defensive stat line. Getting pressure on the quarterback will allow Buffalo’s defense to create more plays as opposing quarterbacks would be subjected to more bad decisions.

Make A Statement

The Bills have started off the season with a great record, but all of their wins have come close so far. The Bills need to establish themselves as a true top contender and show that they can dominate a lesser team for 60 minutes. Josh Allen’s best career game came in 2018 against Miami week 17. Allen had five total touchdowns that game and defeated the Dolphins handily. Allen needs to have a performance like that again this year to show that Buffalo is not clinging to fourth-quarter comebacks to get wins.

Conclusion

The Bills week seven matchup against Miami will be a telling game for Buffalo win or loss. Buffalo needs to show dominance over a team that is clearly struggling due to their winless record. If Josh Allen and the Bills can’t get things rolling against the Dolphins, they might be in trouble when they face the Philidelphia Eagles in week eight.
