Diamondbacks Third Baseman Eugenio Suarez to Officially Become a Seattle Mariner

Third baseman Eugenio Suarez will once again officially be a Seattle Mariner.

According to various sources, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners have made what would be there second deal in a week with this one seeing the Diamondbacks trading Suarez to the Mariners in exchange for Seattle’s ninth ranked prospect in first baseman Tyler Locklear along with their 16th ranked prospect in right-handed pitcher Hunter Cranton and another right-handed pitcher in 17th ranked Juan Burgos.

Suarez, who this season is hitting .248 with 36 home runs and 87 RBI, will be looking to prove that you can indeed come home again as the veteran slugger played the 2022 and 2023 as a member of the Mariners.

During the 2022 season, his first wearing Mariners colors, Suarez slugged 31 home runs and 87 RBI’s which was followed the next season by Suarez mashing 22 home runs along with 96 RBI’s.

One of his many season-long accomplishments came on April 26th when he put his name in the record books by becoming only the 19th MLB player to hit four home runs in a game where Arizona came up short by an 8-7 decision against the Atlanta Braves.

This season Suarez on four occasions has been named the MLB Player of the Week and for a sixth season has hit 30 or more home runs including in 2019 when he hit 49 round trippers.

What the Deal for Eugenio Suarez Means for the Seattle Mariners

Suarez and Cal Raleigh Provide Lethal Power in Mariners Batting Order

The addition of Suarez would mean that the Mariners would have arguably the best one-two punch in catcher Cal Raleigh who has already hit 41 home runs and Suarez who in his 12-year career has accumulated 1,395 hits along with 312 home runs, 804 runs, 918 RBI’s and 33 stolen bases.

Both Suarez and Raleigh along with the likes of outfielders Julio Rodriguez, Randy Arozarena, first baseman Josh Naylor and second baseman Jorge Polanco make up a fearsome well balanced batting order who will be counted on heavily down the stretch to do some damage.

Suarez is currently in the final year of an eight-year $79 million-dollar contract.

Mariners and Diamondbacks Familiar Trading Partners

Heading into August, the Mariners find themselves five games behind first place Houston Astros in the American League West Division.

Back on July 24th these two teams made a big trade which saw the Mariners mortgage more of their future by purchasing Naylor in exchange for Seattle’s number 13 prospect in left-handed pitcher Brandyn Garcia along with righthander and number 16 prospect Ashton Izzi.

“It’s huge,” Mariners manager Dan Wilson said after the Naylor trade. “Looking forward to welcoming Josh into a Mariner uniform. A tremendous player, a tremendous bat, and really looking forward to how he first into this lineup. It’s going to be a tough lineup, and it makes us so much deeper.”

Naylor, who is 28 years-old was batting .292 with 11 home runs along with 59 RBI’s and 102 hits when the Diamondbacks traded him to the Mariners.

During Naylor’s career he has enjoyed stints with the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Guardians and Diamondbacks where he has accumulated 644 hits, 306 runs, 403 RBI’s and 96 home runs.

These deals are a loud and clear statement that the Mariners are all in on bringing a World Series to the Great Northwest.
