As Week 7 comes to an end, the AP Top 25 has come out. Many teams have fallen out of the rankings, and unfortunately for them, they must prove themselves to re-enter. There have, of course, been teams that have come into the rankings as well. It is time to see some of the top takeaways as we prepare for Week 8 of college football.
Top Takeaways From Week 7 AP Poll
1. Ohio State (6-0)
This doesn’t surprise anyone that the Ohio State Buckeyes remain number one. The reigning champs dominated their way to a 34-16 win over the formerly No. 17 Illinois Fighting Illini on the road.
2. Miami (5-0, IDLE)
3. Indiana (6-0)
Interestingly, after the Indiana Hoosiers’ defeat of the No. 3 Oregon Ducks on the road, Indiana now ranks higher than it ever has. They are legit championship contenders and remain No. 3 after week 7.
4. Texas A&M (6-0)
Under Mike Elko, the Texas A&M Aggies have done nothing wrong so far in 2025. They remain 6-0 with a good 17-point win over the Florida Gators.
5. Ole Miss (6-0)
The Ole Miss Rebels didn’t look very good, barely scratching out a 3-point win to a team that lost 59-10 against the North Texas Mean Green. Needless to say, the Rebels will look to do much better at the Georgia Bulldogs.
6. Alabama (5-1)
Believe it or not, this is the highest the Alabama Crimson Tide has been ranked since mid-season of last year. This week, Alabama barely survived on the road against the No. 14 Missouri Tigers. Next up? None other than the No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers at home, who Alabama has lost two of it’s last three against.
7. Texas Tech (6-0)
The Texas Tech Red Raiders have continued to roll, this time, defeating a dangerous Kansas Jayhawk team 42-17. The Big 12 feels like it is destined to be Tech’s, with only the BYU Cougars in their way.
8. Oregon (5-1)
Oregon has looked more unimpressive each week since their huge win in week 2. Now, the Ducks must deal with a humiliating loss against the Indiana Hoosiers and better hope not to lose another game.
9. Georgia (5-1)
Georgia has continued to stay alive after their first loss of the this season. This time, Georgia turned a nearly 17-0 deficit into a 20-10. The bright side of the season so far has been their excellent defense. Next the Dawgs will host the Rebels.
10. LSU (5-1)
Another bad offensive performance has LSU looking pretty mediocre. The good thing though has been their defense, which carried them to a 20-10 win over South Carolina.
11. Tennessee (5-1)
Tennessee has nearly reached the Top 10, this time surviving the hungry Arkansas Razorbacks 34-31. Of course however, their next opponent is no easy walk in the park.
12. Georgia Tech (6-0)
The Georgia Tech Yellowjackets have been flying under the radar, this time defeating Virginia Tech 35-20. Perhaps, the Yellowjackets can compete for the ACC.
13. Notre Dame (4-2)
Now, the Notre Fighting Irish have won 4 in a row and have kept their playoff hopes alive. The Irish won 36-7 against the North Carolina State Wolfpack and will look to continue their climb upwards.
14. Oklahoma (5-1)
Perhaps no fan base is more disappointed in their week 7 result than Oklahoma. After doing really well, the Sooners lost 23-6 against the Texas Longhorns. Heisman contender John Mateer throw 3 int’s in route to their disappointing performance.
15. BYU (6-0)
After surviving 33-27 against the Arizona Wildcats, BYU has remained undefeated, and now rank as the No. 15 team in the country. At the moment, they are a true contender for the Big 12.
16. Missouri (5-1)
In a game that the Tigers could’ve won, Missouri lost by three vs. the the Crimson Tide. It’s disappointing, but it also proves their among the best in the SEC.
17. Vanderbilt (5-1, IDLE)
18. Virginia (5-1, IDLE)
19. South Florida (5-1)
Many probably thought that South Florida would lose to North Texas. Instead, they now remain as the group of 6 team to beat with a 63-26 win against the Mean Green.
20. USC (5-1)
In an game that not to many foresaw, the running game which has kept the Michigan Wolverines alive died. As a result, the USC Trojans thoroughly dominated the former No. 15 team 31-13. Next up? Notre Dame.
21. Texas (4-2)
Texas has rejoined the rankings after dominating the Sooners 23-6. They can build on things against the Kentucky Wildcats.
22. Memphis (6-0, IDLE)
23. Utah (5-1)
In a game that Utah Utes could’ve lost, the the Utes dominated the the Jeff Sims led Arizona State Sun Devils 42-10. Apparently, the Big 12 may still be within reach.
24. Cincinnati (5-1)
Ever since losing in Kansas City to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Cincinnati Bearcats have pretty much done nothing wrong either. This time, they won Scott Frost and the UCF Knights 20-11.
25. Nebraska (5-1)
Nebraska enters the rankings after coming back to beat the Maryland Terrapins 34-31. Maryland should probably be 6-0, yet, the Huskers have found ways to win close games. This time, it brings them into the rankings.
Fallen Out of Rankings:
15 Michigan, 17 Illinois, 21 Arizona State, 22 Iowa State, 25 Florida State
Over the last few weeks, there hasn’t been any mercy for Penn State, Florida State, or Iowa State. First, the Cyclones lost to the formerly 2-4 Colorado Buffalo 24-17. The Florida State Seminoles meanwhile lost to it’s 8th straight ACC opponent. Pittsburgh found a way to win 34-31. As for Penn State, fans may have to start wearing paper bags on their heads after losing to the Northwestern Wildcats 22-21 at home. James Franklin was fired, Drew Allar it out for the season, Penn State is 3-3 with no end in sight of all the- suffering.
The rankings add an extra special something to football. It really shows who’s on top of the world and who isn’t. This week, new teams come into it as others fall. This week may be the first that has really eliminated an abundance of teams from contention.
