College Football Playoffs: Comparing Each Power 4 Conference Leader

Big Ten: Indiana Hoosiers/Ohio State Buckeyes

There is a tie at the top of the Big Ten conference. The Indiana Hoosiers and the Ohio State Buckeyes lead one of the two best conferences in America. The Hoosiers and Buckeyes have been dominant. Indiana’s offense led by Heisman favorite quarterback Fernando Mendoza, while Ohio State’s has been led by redshirt freshman quarterback Julian Sayin and wide receivers Carnell Tate and Jeremiah Smith. What has separated the Buckeyes has been their defense. Not saying the Hoosiers don’t have the greatest defense, they are No. 2 overall defense, only allowing 11.6 points per game. However, Ohio State sits as the No. 1 overall defense, allowing 7.5 points per game. The dominance of both of these teams completely seperate themselves from the rest of America.

SEC: Texas A&M Aggies

The Texas A&M Aggies have been the No. 1 team in the SEC pretty much throughout conference play. Led by quarterback Marcel Reed, the Aggies are still undefeated, despite nearly being upset at home against South Carolina. Reed has been helped out on the offensive end with receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver, who both have over 780 yards receiving. On top of it, Concepcion has eight touchdowns. The only issue for the Aggies is on the defensive side of the ball. They’ve done well, but have had a couple of close calls. Texas A&M has allowed 23.6 points per game, which ranks as the No. 64 overall defense. It is ranked way lower than No. 6 Ole Miss, who is currently No. 3 overall in the SEC.

Big 12: Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have started to meet the expectations that were put on them at the beginning of the season. Texas Tech is in the fast lane to the Big 12 championship, with it most likely facing off against the BYU Cougars again. The Red Raiders have only slipped up once, on the road against Arizona State but will most likely not lose again. The Red Raiders offense has been incredible along with their defense, which is No. 3 in country in points allowed per game. Texas Tech will be competing for a national title, as long as it wins its conference.

ACC: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

The worst of the bunch for sure, but the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets haven’t been bad. Other than its slip up against NC State, Georgia Tech and its offense has played well and now are expected to be one of the teams in the ACC championship in two weeks. Quarterback Haynes King has been great for the Yellow Jackets and will be a big reason why the Yellow Jackets can make the College Football Playoff.
