5 CFB Teams In Big Trouble After Week 3

As the college football season continues, the CFB world is now aware of a lot of upsets and teams that aren’t doing too well. After week 3, it is apparent that some teams are in bigger trouble than others. Meanwhile, there are even teams who done well maybe on the scoreboard, but don’t look very good at all. Here are some teams to keep your eye on after week 3 disappointment.

Teams in Big Trouble After Week 3

Clemson

The Clemson Tiger offense looks horrible after scoring just 21 points in their last contest. Even against the Troy Trojans, Clemson struggled to put away the Sun Belt team with a 27-16 victory. To be fair, Dabo Swinney and company have lost to two good teams, but with such a performance against Troy, it doesn’t look good for the Tigers. With the offense looking bad, this season doesn’t feel like the CFP season so many people thought Clemson would put up this season. Not to mention, a collapse isn’t entirely impossible.

Notre Dame

Sure, two weeks and two ranked teams. Not to mention, both losses were by 3 or fewer for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Yet, it feels like the Fighting Irish are in a massive hole. The Irish aren’t in a conference, which makes their weak schedule a problem. The playoffs are a possibility for the Fighting Irish quite easily still, especially if they can find a way to win convincingly. However, one more loss means huge trouble. 0-2 is no way to begin a season, and it is evident that this team is in trouble.

Wisconsin

For the Wisconsin Badgers, it isn’t about the CFB playoff. Simply put, the CFB program looks dim, while Luke Fickell feels like he may be coaching his final days in Madison. The Badgers are in a hole that they have dug themselves into over the last few seasons. To be rather honest, the Badgers look like the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Mike Riley-Scott Frost era. Unfortunately, the Badgers don’t just look bad, they look horrible, and a collapse is possible. If there is a big red button for a college football program, the Badgers may very well push that this season.

Texas

Sure, the Texas Longhorns probably aren’t collapsing or becoming an afterthought like the Badgers. However, all three games for the formerly No. 1 team in the nation have been unimpressive. Arch Manning has especially looked rather lost in some of these games. With lofty expectations, it is fair to say that the Longhorns have disappointed and are in trouble. Now, don’t expect the team to collapse by any means.  But the first three weeks haven’t been impressive, especially offensively. Let’s just say the SEC isn’t a conference that is kind to underperforming teams. For now, Texas doesn’t look like a playoff team.

South Carolina

The first two CFB weeks weren’t overly impressive by any means for the South Carolina Gamecocks. However, they still couldn’t have predicted a 31-7 loss at home against the Vanderbilt Commodores. This season may be a breakout year for Vandy, yet even then, the Gamecocks were expected themselves to be great. Now, South Carolina must face their horrifying schedule and hope for a miracle. People probably didn’t expect the Gamecocks to be the best team in the SEC coming into the season. However, at the same time, it wasn’t impossible. Now? Well, it kinda seems impossible.

Week 3 of college football remains to be one of the most important weeks of the season. It could mark the end of nonconference play for many teams. For these teams, the 2025 season doesn’t look as bright as it originally did. Maybe these teams figure it out by the end of the year, but for now, the beginning of the year is troubling.
