The Buffalo Bills are entering the 2024 season with key subtractions to its offense.
Josh Allen, with many weapons of the past, has still been looked at as a turnover machine for his team.
Allen committed 22 turnovers in 2023.
Now, there’s one position that will look drastically different and will impact Allen next season.
New faces could decide how far the Bills will go in 2024.
The wide receiver position will look drastically different
The biggest change for the team is at wide receiver, especially with the losses of Gabe Davis and Stefon Diggs.
The Bills front office knew they needed a receiver to fill those gaps, but now the position looks drastically different compared to 2023.
There has been speculation about Michael Thomas joining the team after a nice stint with New Orleans.
Bills address the need for the position in the NFL Draft
Bills fans do have a lot to be excited about with their new young receiver, Keon Coleman. Coleman comes from Florida State as the No. 33 overall pick in the NFL Draft. In the NFL Combine, Coleman reached a 20.4 speed, something the front office should be impressed about.
General Manager Brandon Beane addressed the need to keep the team at the core while not overreacting to being “one piece away.”
Bills GM Brandon Beane:
“I just feel like the way the offense is set up, the pieces we already have, let’s just add to it and make sure we have the depth in other places because we all know you have some years where you get injured and if you don’t have viable pieces ready to come in, it doesn’t matter what you did.”
Veteran wideouts sign with the Bills
The Bills also picked up former Washington receiver Curtis Samuel on a three-year deal.
His best year with Washington came in 2022 where he caught 64 balls for 656 receiving yards and 4 receiving touchdowns. He added 187 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown as well. Samuel shows he can be a reliable asset in the air and on the ground. He shares a veteran presence around a young group of guys in his position.
Another piece the Bills got in the offseason was Marquez Valdes-Scantling from Kansas City. MVS has been a deep threat and will fit well next to Allen if he’s looking for a home run ball.
Some fans might say the most growth is needed out of the future third-year man out of Boise State, Khalil Shakir. He saw much more playing time in his sophomore campaign, gaining 611 yards in the air. Shakir is a proven speedster who can be utilized for many short-route concepts such as screens.
Tight end depth is golden
The tight end group of this team is just as valuable to be included in this conversation. Dawson Knox has been consistent in his spot for the past three seasons. The Bills might just have the best tight end depth in the league. The young Dalton Kincaid had a productive rookie season.
With a mix of veterans and youngsters, this new group will be looked at to help Allen when he has the football in his hands. If Allen remains running around with nobody open, the results won’t be that great. However, the potential is there for the Buffalo Bills to make their new faces work well with one another.
