Five Players Arsenal Could Sneak in Before The Transfer Deadline

Despite reassurances that the club would change when Arsene Wenger signed a new two-year contract this summer, it looks like Arsenal are still suffering from the same old problems. A disappointing display against Stoke City last week, followed by an embarrassing performance against Liverpool, has left Arsenal with just three points in three games. The developments have put certain players future in question and perhaps created space for others.

There are still a few days left in this summer’s transfer window, and with Saed Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette the club’s only recruits this season, it is clear that Arsenal are in need of reinforcements by the time the window shuts.

Five players Arsenal Could Before The Premier League Transfer Deadline

Steven N’Zonzi (Sevilla)

The former Blackburn and Stoke City man has made a real name for himself in Spain since his move to Sevilla. It became clear during Arsenal’s defeat at Liverpool, the Gunners were lacking a properly responsible holding midfielder yet again. The partnership of Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey turned out to be a recipe for disaster and Arsenal need a solution. N’Zonzi would bring both experience and some much needed steel to the Arsenal midfield. That element has been missing since fellow Frenchman Patrick Vieira departed in 2005. N’Zonzi has a release clause of just over £35 million, and may be just the player Arsenal need.

Jonny Evans (West Brom)

With Nacho Monreal continuing to be deployed as a left centre-back, it seems that Arsenal are still short in the centre of defence. These issues could be made even worse with reports that Shkodran Mustafi is on the verge of a move to Inter Milan. Rob Holding still lacks experience and is inconsistent at times. Evans is a solid centre-back who has really impressed with West Brom over the last couple of years, and was subject to interest from Arsenal last summer. The Gunners will have to vie with Manchester City for the Northern Irishman’s signature if they want to bring him to the club.

Danny Drinkwater (Leicester City)

Drinkwater may not seem like your typical Arsene Wenger signing, but maybe that’s what Arsenal need right now. They were very predictable in the defeat against Stoke, and Arsenal’s pass-and-move game created very few quality chances. Drinkwater would give Arsenal, more stability in front of the three centre-backs and a longer range of passing; moving the ball forward quicker. In terms of technical ability, he is not the normal type of midfielder Wenger usually looks to sign, but Arsenal will not be successful if they can only play one way.

Ricardo Pereira (FC Porto)

To many, an unfamiliar name, but the Portuguese wing-back has attracted interest from both Tottenham and Manchester United this summer. Arsenal have enjoyed some success since Wenger’s switch to three at the back, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has found himself forced into the right wing-back role. At times he has looked a bit like a square peg in a round hole; especially when it comes to the defensive side of the position. Pereira showed his strong defensive ability during his two-year loan spell at Nice. The 23-year-old would be well suited to this Arsenal side.
