Breaking: Aaron Rodgers Says 2025 Will Be His Last Season

Four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers announced on the Pat McAfee show that 2025 will likely be his last year in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers Says 2025 Will Be His Last Season

After signing a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason, it will likely be the final season the four-time MVP and one-time Super Bowl champion plays in the NFL after a historic season. Tuesday afternoon, Rodgers made his often weekly appearance on the McAfee show and was asked if it could be his final season in the NFL. The former Green Bay Packers quarterback had this to say.

“I’m pretty sure this is it,” Rodgers said. “That’s why we did a one-year deal. The Steelers didn’t need to put any extra years on that. This is really about finishing with a lot of love and fun for the career I’ve had. I’ve played 20 years, and what better place to finish than with one of the cornerstone franchises in the NFL and with Mike Tomlin and a city that wants you to win.”

There was speculation that this could be the last season for Rodgers as the former Packers quarterback has often been on record saying he could stop playing any day. Rodgers and Tomlin have long had an affinity for one another and now they will have a chance to make a run in 2025 together.

The last couple of seasons have been tough on Rodgers, to say the least. He spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets after spending his entire career with the Packers. His Jets tenure was forgettable, as everything from leadership down to the play on the field often yielded disappointing results. Rogers tore his Achilles in 2023 and was able to return in 2024 and play a full season. From a win-loss perspective the Jets didn’t accomplish much however Rodgers did look solid in his last season throwing for 3,897 yards 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Rodgers Will Likely Be First-Ballot Hall of Famer

Rodgers will go down as one of the best quarterbacks to play in the NFL, regardless of how his last season will go in Pittsburgh. He has four MVPs to go along with one Super Bowl. He has record-setting seasons in touchdown-interception ratio and passer rating. He holds the highest passer rating of all-time for a career, and he is fifth all-time in touchdown passes thrown with 503. By the end of the season, he will likely move to fourth all-time, surpassing Brett Favre.

Steelers Expectations for 2025

If this is Rodgers’s final season, the Steelers have both of Rodgers’s former teams on the schedule. They open up week one against the Jets, and they have a showdown with the Packers in a primetime game as well. The Steelers will have to navigate their way through a tough AFC conference to be able to go on a possible playoff run. The AFC South is tough, and the other quarterbacks throughout the AFC are tough to go against, so Tomlin and Rodgers will have to make sure they are at their best this season if the Steelers don’t want to be more than a wild-card team with a first-round exit.
