1. New York Rangers
The very competitive Metropolitan Division has left the Rangers in a really interesting spot as a team on the cusp, needing that one big deal to put them over the top. With the stability of the slightly ageing King Henrik Lundqvist in net, the Rangers might be an attractive destination. The Rangers has stubbed their toes a lot lately, but don’t expect them to sit back and let other rivals in the division—namely Pittsburgh and Washington—make all the deals. Your move, Rangers.
2. Edmonton Oilers
Yes, the Edmonton Oilers are in the ‘buyers’ category after many years of being laughed at for selling everyone and tanking. With a logjam in the Pacific Division, and with the likes of San Jose, Anaheim, and even Calgary making moves to better themselves, Edmonton can’t stand still. Conor McDavid would surely love some help from GM Peter Charelli, who isn’t shy in making moves. Keep an eye out, Oilers fans. The suffering is slowly coming to an end.
3. Nashville Predators
David Poile has definitely made some very savvy and shrewd moves being the Predators general manager. Sitting right behind the Hawks and Wild, you can definitely see another smart and savvy move being contemplated by Mr. Poile. With Subban for Weber and Johansen for Jones, it’s time to sit tight Tennessee hockey fans, moves may be coming.
4. Montreal Canadiens
A team that has gone through a lot changes with the firing of Michel Therrien, perhaps there are more to come for the Habs. Montreal is still lacking something on their team—and it’s not Carey Price. Perhaps Marc Bergevin needs to make another tweak to get the team back on track. The pressure never stops in the good old city of Montreal.
5. Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh? Yes, with the team playing well, and their superstars acting like superstars, the Penguins may be in the hunt for one more piece. Having been plagued by an injury bug lately, the Penguins are set to make another deep playoff run, and one deadline deal might just get them there.
