They have won big games and built a reputation as one of the hardest teams to beat. However, things have started to change, and their recent losses show that they are not as untouchable as they once were.

Five Weeks of Perfection, Two Weeks of Panic
The Kansas City Chiefs started the 2026 season well, winning their first five games, with players doing great, Mahomes looking like the MVP, and the Chiefs getting back to being the best. However, things took a major turn when they faced the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Seattle Seahawks.
The Chiefs started the game badly and ended it badly as well, losing their first game of the season 20-3. Everyone thought the Denver Broncos would be defeated, as they were dominated by the Chiefs in the first game they met this season.
Back-to-Back Defeats Raise Questions
As previously mentioned, things changed drastically when the Chiefs faced the Seahawks in Week 7 and lost 20-3. The Broncos lost to the Chiefs in the first meeting this season, and now the Broncos had a chance for revenge.
The Broncos were losing most of the game, but then came the fourth quarter, when the Chiefs lost all their hope. The Broncos won the game 28- 24, another bad loss for Kansas City. Mahomes threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns, but the team could not hold onto its lead. There are many problems that the Chiefs need to fix on their team.
One is the defense; they need to fix it. Letting the Broncos come back is just embarrassing for the Chiefs. The second thing is that they need another receiving threat. Travis Kelce is not the only player on the field, but he is literally the only target Mahomes throws to.
Mahomes Needs More Help
This loss showed one of the biggest problems for Kansas City. Even when Mahomes has a good game, the Chiefs are not always able to finish the job. They had 399 total yards against Denver, compared to 294 for the Broncos, but still came away with a defeat. The Chiefs also struggled to stop Denver when the game was on the line.
The two losses do not mean that Kansas City is a bad team. They are still 5-2 and have one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league. However, Mahomes needs more help on the field. He cannot be the player that wins all the games for the Chiefs, especially coming off of a major injury.
The defense needs to stand up and help defeat the teams that they should defeat.
The AFC West Is Becoming More Competitive
The AFC West is becoming harder to win for the Chiefs as the Broncos are 6-2 and have moved ahead of the Chiefs since Kansas City took a loss to Denver. After two straight losses for Kansas City, teams now have the blueprint to defeat the Chiefs.
The Chiefs should no longer expect teams to be afraid of them, because now they are a beatable team.
