Kyle Larson is in complete control after a win at Talladega.

Kyle Larson Has Put Himself in the Driver’s Seat for Another NASCAR Championship

Kyle Larson has taken a significant step toward another NASCAR Cup Series championship after delivering a dramatic victory at Talladega Superspeedway. With only two races remaining in the 2026 season, the Hendrick Motorsports driver has built a commanding advantage over his closest rivals. His latest triumph has strengthened his championship hopes and demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure when it matters most. However, with Martinsville Speedway approaching, Larson must maintain his momentum if he wants to finish the season as champion once again.

Talladega Put Kyle Larson in Total Control

A Clutch Win

Larson’s victory at Talladega was one of the most dramatic races this season, with Joey Logano‘s crash and many other racers having trouble, it was definitely a big race.

Larson led 24 laps, ending with a win, and 71 points to take a massive lead in the championship race. Larson won the race by defeating his teammate William Byron to the line. The win for Larson was important because he had never conquered Talladega in his career, so bringing the win home was important to him.

Winning Talladega was huge for Larson’s playoff run. Now he has a lead of 73 points ahead of Denny Hamlin, who is in second place.

A Title Run Gaining Momentum

Where Larson stands right now in the playoff run is very impressive, especially since he did not have the greatest start to the season. Larson won the championship last season, barely winning by beating Hamlin, so you would think he would have a great season, but he did not have the start to the season that he hoped he would.

However, Larson has improved himself massively. Now entering the final race before the Championship race, he has three wins and 2441 points so far this season, and that has helped him build momentum.

Larson is one of the most talented racers in NASCAR history, and his moves that he can do with his car have helped him conquer different types of race tracks, and now he can finally add a drafting track to the list.

Do Hamlin’s Championship Hopes Remain Alive?

Despite Larson conquering the racetrack, it does not mean Hamlin’s hope of winning the title is dead. Hamlin entered the Chase hot, but has failed to match Larson’s momentum so far. However, Hamlin remains the closest challenger that can compete with him for the title. If Hamlin were to win this week, he could definitely bring on a hard challenge for Larson.

Martinsville Speedway will be the most important race for Hamlin this season. If he can win, he still has a chance at the championship. If Larson wins the race, that would be game over for Hamlin and the field, so Hamlin needs to win this race for any hope at the championship.

Other racers on the racetrack want a win, like Logano and Chase Briscoe, who need it as well, so Hamlin will need to be the best version of himself to win the race. But keep in mind that if Larson wins, he will win his third championship.
