The Kansas City Chiefs have started the season 3-0 after victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The offense has shown plenty of highs and lows.
The Chiefs receiving core is healthy with players like Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy on the field, giving Patrick Mahomes his full arsenal of weapons coming off his knee injury. Another weapon could also potentially be in play down the road as well.

Rashee Rice Is Ready to Turn the Page With the Chiefs
The past two years have been a wild ride for Rice. From a suspension to a month-long jail stint and an offseason spent rehabbing after arthroscopic knee surgery, Rice has had to navigate plenty of adversity since emerging as one of Mahomes’ go-to targets.
The Chiefs have also had a tough time getting their full receiving corps on the field with Rice and Worthy.
Now, Kansas City’s WR1 is looking to turn the page in 2026 and leave that turbulent stretch in the rearview mirror.
Rice showed some signs of a bounce-back in Week’s 2 and 3 after a quiet season opener. He racked up 83 receiving yards in Week 2 and 88 receiving yards in Week 3 but failed to find the end zone, leaving fans wanting more. He was fourth on the team in targets against the Indianapolis Colts but first against the Dolphins, so his usage is something to keep an eye on over the next few weeks as his role in the Chiefs’ offense takes shape.
Off the field, Rice’s offseason brought more unwanted headlines. He violated his probation in May and spent a month in jail during Kansas City’s offseason program, adding another chapter to an already eventful young career.
Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has also been candid about Rice’s personality, recently calling him hardheaded and stubborn—but framing those traits in a positive light. Rice, for his part, has made it clear that the two have a strong relationship and that Bieniemy continues to challenge him to improve every day.
He looks to put that all behind him and keep contributing for Kansas City.
The good news for the Chiefs? They potentially have firepower waiting in the wings.
Kansas City Chiefs May Have a WR1 Backup Plan
If Rice keeps up the momentum and Worthy shows more of his big-play ability, and both stay healthy, the Chiefs will be in good shape. And if Kansas City wants to go full nostalgia mode, a familiar face could even enter the picture: former Chiefs star and free agent Tyreek Hill.
Despite the bumps Hill has faced while trying to get back to his game-breaking best, a return to Kansas City has remained a talking point among several analysts since the offseason. And if the Chiefs’ current WR room doesn’t give Mahomes the consistency he needs, a reunion with Tyreek could become an intriguing short-term option.
Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Hill already have plenty of history together, including multiple playoff runs and a Lombardi Trophy. That chemistry is something Kansas City simply can’t manufacture overnight.
There’s also a bigger picture at play. With Kelce potentially entering the final chapter of his NFL career, the Chiefs could be motivated to go all-in on another Super Bowl push. If the offense needs another explosive weapon to take the top off defenses, bringing Hill back into the fold could be a fascinating avenue to explore.
Of course, Kansas City may not need to make that call if Rice finds his stride and Worthy continues making plays. But whether it’s Rice stepping up or Hill potentially making a surprise return, the Chiefs could have another solution to WRs questions sooner rather than later.
