Mets seeking superstar

Mets May Be Seeking Superstar to Jumpstart Season

The New York Mets are now 10-21. And really, it isn’t for the most part because of pitching. The Mets have three really good starters, and simply put, they need to find a way to get a couple of starters to get a complete rotation. No to mention, the Mets bullpen needs some major help after the Mets who should’ve won the series against the Washington Nationals, allowed Washington to take the lead in the 8th inning. The number one problem? Offense. New York needs offense.

Mets May Seek Big Bat

According to Jon Heyman, the Mets could be looking for a big bat to help their offensive issues. It feels like the only good player on the offense at the moment is Juan Soto, who is batting .345 with three home runs, even while missing 16 games due to an injury just a week into the season. Other than Soto, the next bat is MJ Melendez, who has only played in 11 games, but is also batting .345 with a couple of shots. Pretty much every other Met has been bat, including Bo Bichette who they signed over the offseason, who is batting only .230. And of course, just as Francisco Lindor was starting to heat up, he hit the IL.

Overall, every other bat, literally every other bat has been something to run away from. To put it simply, the idea of a trade in the early season might be a good idea, because really nothing else is working for the offense.

Names New York Could Seek?

Munetaka Murakami

The early leader in homers this season is Munetaka Murakami, the 26-year old newcomer from Japan. To put it simply, the Mets could’ve easily got Murakami, as the Chicago White Sox only gave him $34M over two seasons. Murakami’s 12 homers would help New York massively, not to mention, they are able to in one way clean up the mistake they made by not signing him in the offseason. Murakami wouldn’t be easy to acquire though.

Yordan Alvarez

Yordan Alvarez would require a steep price. However, he too has 12 homers, but also has a .356 average while Murakami’s has an BA of .236. Not to mention, Alvarez has 21 walks to 14 strikeouts, while Murakami has 25 walks but an ugly 46 strikeouts. The Mets also would worry less about a steep falloff, since of course Alvarez has solidified himself as among the game’s best hitters. Such a trade would be a massive deal, but it would provide New York with an unbelievable Alvarez-Soto duo, one that could be even stronger than the Aaron Judge- Soto 2024 duo.

Yandy Diaz

Yandy Diaz makes complete sense for New York, it just smells right. Diaz has got 20+ home run power, but better? He is an easy candidate to win the AL batting title. He wouldn’t the element of power and strength that Alvarez would, but he would be a great addition. New York could also get Diaz for a cheaper price and have some room to make more trades later in the year if they need to. Just overall, he would be an amazing get.

Overall, the season isn’t over. But I have said this too many times. It is getting late for New York, who needs to turn things around now. Unfortunately, New York’s offense is absolutely atrocious without having a healthy big three. There hope is starting to disappear in other players who they thought they could rely on. It seems like life is over for the Mets, but a trade could save the team that should be amazing but at the moment is the worst in the MLB. The Mets need something, and soon.
