Nebraska Transfer Portal Tracker As Movement Heats Up

It seemed for a lot of Nebraska Cornhusker fans and football fans themselves that Nebraska lost a lot of hope after Kenny Minchey flipped to the Kentucky Wildcats. Here who is in a out as Nebraska continues to have a active transfer portal.

Nebraska Transfer Portal Tracker

Who’s Out?

18 players have already transferred, but only a few actually hurt for the Huskers. First, Willis McGahee IV, linebacker, recently entered the portal. McGahee was thought to be a pretty good LB that could’ve made a large impact in the future after getting a redshirt for this season. Keona Davis is also to enter the portal. Although a lot of Husker fans probably never want to see much of the D-line from this season for the rest of their lives, Davis was someone with potential.

Nebraska also lost Malcolm Hartzog, who wasn’t a very big talent to be lost for Nebraska. However, the senior could’ve added some much needed experience to a secondary that could have a lot of youngsters next season. Finally, of course, there is Dylan Raiola, who is starting to feel like a memory from the past. However, Nebraska fans know that he definitely could be better in the future, with the bad part being that if that ever happens, it won’t be in the scarlet and cream.

Who’s In?

Here’s the fun part, who has joined the Huskers so far?

Brendan Black, OL, Iowa State

Brendan Black was a massive commit for the Huskers. Nebraska wants to have a better O-line this season than the last. Black was ranked as the No. 3 OL in the country to enter the portal. For Nebraska, with other guys already there, including Elijah Pritchett and other transfer, this beefs up the O-line and makes it much better.

Owen Chambliss, LB, SDSU

Owen Chambliss is a massive get for the Huskers as well. Chambliss led the Mountain West in solo tackles, had five pass breakups, 1 interception, and a great 4 sacks. Nebraska’s leader in sacks this season had just 2.5. Chambliss is a a versatile linebacker with the ability to defend against the pass, run, and Chambliss can easily blitz the QB. With Chambliss, Nebraska now has much better abilities to put pressure on the QB, stop the run, and even still be great in the secondary.

Tree Babalade, OT, South Carolina

Tree Babalade is a OT that didn’t get too much experience at South Carolina. However, when he did, he showed significant upside, allowing one sack this season. The O-line can be one of the best in the country with good coaching. Hopefully with Geep Wade Nebraska can make sure of it that they will have a great room.

Will Hawthorne, LB, Iowa State

Will Hawthorne, a 4-star linebacker that Nebraska originally tried to get out of high school, has also recently committed to Nebraska. Even though Hawthorne is just a freshman who never saw action with the Cyclones, there is clearly something that Matt Rhule and the Huskers like about Hawthorne. This gives Nebraska more depth at the position that underperformed, especially in the running game this season.

Anthony Colandrea, QB, UNLV

After Nebraska lost the commitment of Kenny Minchey, Nebraska was quick to get another stud out of the portal. Anthony Colandrea led a one of the most effective offenses in the country. In addition to passing for 3,400 yards, Colandrea ran for over 600 yards. This means Nebraska is getting a proven QB that is a dual-threat. Nebraska definitely can be an offensive juggernaut with such an O-line and a great halfback. Watch out for Colandrea.

Dwayne McDougle, S, SDSU

Dwayne McDougle was among the top leaders in the country in interceptions with 4 this season. McDougle also managed one forced fumble and a few pass breakups. Overall, McDougle adds veteran experience and was a teammate with Andrew Marshall at Idaho. With such an addition and other DB’s, Nebraska’s secondary can continue to be elite. Nebraska secondary was the second best in the nation, even with several true freshman starting, unlike other teams with a ton of 5 stars or 4 stars.

Dexter Foster, LB, Oregon State

Finally, Nebraska added more depth at the linebacker position, with this time getting Dexter Foster  who can definitely give Nebraska more to be excited about. The Huskers had a secondary that was amazing but must completely redo the defense against the run. The first line of defense against running is the D-line, which Nebraska needs badly. But linebackers also left a lot to be desired as that important second element against the run. Foster is a great get for Nebraska who was also a four-star out of high school.

Anthony Jones, DE, UCLA

Anthony Jones doesn’t scream that he is a stud by any means. However, Nebraska’s defensive line was horrible this season and had literally no experience. Not one of the players had started for the Huskers or anyone in previous seasons, not to mention it was a remarkably small d-line. Jones is a journey man who is to enroll in his fifth school. However, with how bad the d-line was, this definitely helps Nebraska. The Huskers have done really well in the so far at limiting big losses and are looking better and better with gains like these.

Overall, so far, Nebraska is looking to use the portal to get better in several positions. To begin the year, Nebraska looked pretty good, but as time moved on, injuries and Big Ten teams exploited Nebraska’s evident weaknesses. Hopefully with so many additions, Nebraska can make sure the Big Ten doesn’t eat them alive again.
