BREAKING NEWS: Giants Star WR Malik Nabers Believed To Have Torn ACL

The New York Giants’ sophomore star wide receiver Malik Nabers is believed to have torn his ACL against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Giants Star WR Malik Nabers Tears ACL

The New York Giants’ offense took a massive hit Sunday when star wideout Malik Nabers went down with a knee injury. Nabers was running a downfield route when rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart threw him a go-ball up the sideline. Nabers’ knee seemed to buckle, and he immediately went down and held his knee. An eventual cart would come out for Nabers, with the fear being a serious knee injury.

NFL insiders confirmed shortly after Nabers’ injury that it is believed to be a torn ACL.

New York took Nabers with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and he immediately showed last season that he was among the NFL’s best receivers. Last season, Nabers broke the Giants’ record for most receptions in a season with 109. He also added 1,204 receiving yards and was named to the Pro Bowl as an injury replacement.

At the time of Nabers’ injury, he was in the top five in the league in receiving yards and among the league leaders in targets this season. He shared a team target percentage of 31.1% which was clearly the highest mark on the team.

The Giants recently made a switch at quarterback from Russell Wilson to Dart, and Nabers would have been someone Dart was leaning on heavily. New York’s offense is already void of top-notch playmakers, so losing Nabers will leave the Giants’ offense scrambling going forward. The Giants re-signed Darius Slayton during free agency back in March, so he will likely step into the role as the top option while the Giants look through the trade market to try to add another playmaker.

Giants will need to find another playmaker to make sure Dart succeeds

With the Giants fully turning their attention to developing their rookie quarterback, they are going to want to find pass catchers who can make big plays. Nabers was a threat all over the field for the Giants. He could catch a 70-yard touchdown pass or a five-yard pass and take it 50 yards down the field. Of course, NY won’t be able to make a one-for-one replacement of Nabers, but making sure they surround Dart with as many playmakers as possible so he won’t have to force plays will be key.

The running game looks solid for NY as Cam Skattebo looks like a solid draft pick for the Giants. They have a another playmaker in Tyrone Tracy, but he is currently hurt, and Wan’dale Robinson is a shifty player who will continue to help Dart and the Giants, but the Giants will need to find another player who can threaten a defense.
