As the season progresses, many teams have endured some harrowing stretches. This has made it evident that trades are needed. As a result, the deadline could very well shape the World Series this season. Here are some of the top names who will shake up the market this season.
2025 MLB Trade Deadline Targets
10 Jarren Duran
As many teams will be searching for a center fielder, the power-speed combo of Jarren Duran will be a player to be talked about. After the Rafael Devers trade, it was evident that the Boston Red Sox don’t plan on a World Series win this season. This season hasn’t been good at all for Duran. However, Duran would still catch the attention of many teams, especially those that need power in center field.
9. Taylor Ward
A name that many people might forget, Taylor Ward, has exploded in 2025. Ward has been a consistent threat throughout the last few seasons. However, this season has been more than threatening. Ward has managed to hit 20 homers. Even though his average hasn’t been great and Ward won’t provide much defense compared to others, Ward would be a great offensive threat for any team.
8. Marcell Ozuna
The Atlanta Braves know that they are an awesome team. However, at this point in the season, even with a sweep of the New York Mets, the Braves still had not reached .500. Since Marcell Ozuna is already an older player and the team wants young talent, this would surprise no one if Ozuna is traded.
7. Cedric Mullins
If teams like the Mets are searching for center field power, then Cedric Mullins would be a good idea. Mullins has seemingly found some 2021 power and would be a great option for teams who don’t have power center fielders. Mullins also has good defense and will almost certainly be traded this season thanks to a bad season from the Baltimore Orioles. This will definitely be a name to watch out for.
6. Byron Buxton
One interesting name to look for is Byron Buxton. When healthy, Buxton is basically one the best players in the game. The problem? Well in Buxton’s career, Buxton is averaging just 76 games player. In those 76 games, Buxton is averaging 14 homers and has been amazing. In 92 games in 2022, Buxton hit a crazy 28 home runs. The reality is that health is a major issue. However, if Buxton can somehow remain healthy this season, Buxton can definitely be the biggest piece on the market his season.
5. Sandy Alcantara
Sandy Alcantara is one player who everyone knew was going to be a huge target this season. However, Alcantara has struggled this season with an 6.98 ERA, one of the worst in the league. Alcantara’s history alone will likely lead to a trade anyway, as Alcantara has shown some potential this season. If this former Cy Young pitcher can find the strike zone, Alcantara could be a big target for teams.
4. Eugenio Suarez
If the Arizona Diamondbacks decide to sell, expect Eugenio Suarez to be quite the target. Of course, the D-Backs have plenty of time to find their grove. However, Suarez is soon set to be a free agent and if the D-Backs feel that the talent around in the NL is too much, don’t be surprised if Suarez is traded. Suarez is a potential 50-homer player. This is a huge piece, potentially.
3. Luis Robert Jr.
One of the top players who will almost certainly be traded this season, Luis Robert Jr. could be a difference maker on both sides, defense and offense. Offensively, Robert has struggled to retain a respectable average; however, his power and threat alone could be immense. Many teams with amazing lineups could actually benefit Robert Jr. Robert Jr. is potentially the number one center fielder in this market.
2. Alex Bregman
As Alex Bregman is a potential free agent after this season. As a result Bregman can be dealt this season. The fact that Devers was traded shows that Boston could finally be headed for a rebuild around younger players. Many teams would love to have the experience of Bregman, as teams are almost always searching for such great talent.
1. Zac Gallen
Zac Gallen could be the number one player this season for one massive reason. Gallen has massively struggled this season with a 5.75 ERA. However, Gallen is simply too good to drop dead suddenly. As a result, Gallen could be the biggest ace on the market and provide big abilities for teams looking for a talented pitcher. Again, if Gallen kind find the strike zone himself, then thing could change for Gallen.
Overall, the trades that could happen this season are massive. From the playoffs to the World Series, trades can affect the MLB massively. It will be intriguing to see what can happen this deadline.
