MLB Power Rankings: Week 2

As the MLB season continues, teams begin to show weaknesses and strengths. This week, many teams bounced back while others continued on the wrong trail. Let’s rank the top 30 teams for week 3:

MLB Power Rankings: Week 2

1. Los Angeles Dodgers (9-2)

Finally! We found out that the Los Angeles Dodgers are human. With Blake Snell injured and the Dodgers first series loss of the season, the Dodgers may not be that invincible. However, LA still look’s great and is still the best team in the MLB.

2. New York Mets (6-3)

Why not the New York Yankees or Philadelphia Phillies? Well, because New York is insanely powerful at the moment. The New York Mets strength is their offense, yet they’ve won 4 in a row because of their pitching. In other words, watch out for when New York’s offense wake’s. Not to mention the Mets player of the week is Pete Alonso, which is a great sign.

3. Philadelphia Phillies (7-2)

Regardless of the fact that Philly doesn’t look too good because of their sweep of the Colorado Rockies, it is hard to win the Dodgers. The Phil’s were able to achieve a lovely victory over the Dodgers and show tremendous strength. Philly is definitely one of the best teams in the league right now.

4. New York Yankees (6-3)

The New York Yankees weren’t all that good against the Arizona Diamondbacks and still didn’t do too well against the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, the Yankees didn’t do much over that last week to prove anything, whether good or bad (and no, Trent Grisham ISN’T Juan Soto, he never will be).

5. Texas Rangers (7-2)

How’ Bout them Cowboys? The Texas Rangers were able to greatly show their strength over the last week and earn a higher spot in the power rankings. Hat’s off to the Rangers.

6. San Diego Padres (8-2)

The San Diego Padres looked very strong against the Cleveland Guardians. However, against the Chicago Cubs, it wasn’t the same story. Really, the Padres didn’t regress or progress in the last week.

7. Chicago Cubs (7-5)

The Chicago Cubs really have bounced back from a beginning mediocre start. With a strong team (including Kyle Tucker), the Cubs look strong after great week.

8. Boston Red Sox (6-4)

It seems as if that the Boston Red Sox have finally clicked- little bit. With a 5-game win streak, Boston deserves some recognition for their rebound after a 4-game losing streak turning into a winning streak. Perhaps Boston is much stronger than their start suggested.

9. San Francisco Giants (9-1)

Honestly, when the San Francisco Giants are surprising everyone at the moment. With the best record so far in the MLB, the Giants have found a way to even have a better record than the Dodgers. Hopefully, the Giants can continue winning games.

10. Arizona Diamondbacks (5-5)

One can’t get off to a more mediocre start than 5-5. However, especially a start that includes a series loss against the Washington Nationals. However, a series victory against the Yankees was a good sign. Perhaps the D-Backs just haven’t broken out yet.

11. Detroit Tigers (5-4)

The Detroit Tigers did flash some potential over the week. Although, a sweep against the Chicago White Sox isn’t all that impressive. One good thing: the Tigers young talent might propel them to be the best team in the AL Central.

12. Kansas City Royals (4-5)

The Kansas City Royals shouldn’t be all that excited about a 4-5 loss. However, the team has been very competitive against some great opponents and deserves recognition.

13. Houston Astros (4-5)

Honestly, after a good series against the Mets, the Astros have been boring. The Astros didn’t prove anything over the week.

14. Baltimore Orioles (4-6)

For a team wanting to compete for the top spot in the division, the Orioles haven’t been impressive at all. Hopefully, the offense can comeback. However, for now the team looks really mediocre.

15. Los Angeles Angels (6-3)

Really, all the Los Angeles Angels need is players to be healthy. If  Mike Trout is healthy, so might the teams chances of a postseason be healthy. For now, the Angels jump up the rankings after an impressive week.

16. Milwaukee Brewers (5-5)

The Brew Crew is still likely in trouble this season. However, after an 0-4 start, the Milwaukee Brewers managed to win 4 in a row and prove some resilience. The Brewers still sit in the middle of the pack for now.

17. Toronto Blue Jays (5-5)

Well, that was one heck of a series in New York! The Toronto Blue Jays looked quite good after an opening series loss to Baltimore. However, they embarrassed themselves over in Queens and remain mediocre for now. One good note: Bo Bichette might just be a star again.

18. Cleveland Guardians (3-6)

The Cleveland Guardians were first eaten alive by the Padres and then relatively beaten up by the Angels. Unfortunately for Cleveland, one can’t be more mediocre in the last week than the Guardians have been in the last week.

19. Tampa Bay Rays (4-5)

The poor Tampa Bay Rays unfortunately started the week well but then got swept by the flaming Rangers. Other than that, the Rays proved themselves to be a mediocre team before they can prove otherwise.

20. St Louis Cardinals (4-5)

It actually wasn’t that bad one week ago for the Cardinals after a 3-0 start. However, somehow the Cardinals forgot they weren’t playing football against the Red Sox (allowed 18 runs in one game). Overall, this team definitely regressed over the last week.

21. Athletics (4-6)

The Athletics have one goal for 2025: improvements. This is why being 4-6 doesn’t matter. This team has some offensive power but remains a weak team.

22. Seattle Mariners (3-7)

This ranking of the Mariners is a show of mercy. 3-7 is never a way to start a season. However, the rotation is still good and hopefully Seattle can bounce back. One bad thing though: the offense is very ugly looking.

23. Cincinnati Reds (3-7)

The Reds haven’t really done much this season. However, the hope is simple: the rotation to be good and the offense to bounce back. For now, however, the Reds remain low on the list.

24. Washington Nationals (3-6)

Meh. The Nationals were able to win a series. Yay! Really no one cares, this team remains very boring until it can prove otherwise.

25. Atlanta Braves (1-8)

Number 25! That’s insane for such a good team to be ranked that low. However, the Braves got swept by the Dodgers and then split the series against the Miami Marlins. Not to mention the offense has been great! They’ve only been shutout 3 times in their first 9 games (most teams haven’t been shut out once). The Braves have gotten off to a horrible start in 2025.

26. Miami Marlins (5-5)

Other than Friday against the Braves, the Marlins have been competitive to begin 2025. Of course, the Marlins lost against New York in their series to begin the week, but Miami will stay the same as last week since really nothing has changed. Poor Miami though is going to visit New York next.

27. Pittsburgh Pirates (3-7)

The Pirates were able to scratch off a win against the Yankees. However, this team still just looks.. bad. The Pirates offense remains boring and not very talented.

28. Minnesota Twins (3-6)

This team has plenty of talent but not a lot of has been shown. The only series the team has managed to win was against the White Sox, and oh boy that’s impressive. However, the team remains bad until they too can prove otherwise.

29. Colorado Rockies (2-7)

The Rockies haven’t surprised anyone this season so far. A 6-game losing streak and a horrible rotation makes this team the second worst team in the league. Moving on.

30. Chicago White Sox (2-7)

The Chicago White Sox have now lost 5 in a row. Welcome to the new reality for the next few seasons. The White Sox are the worst team in the league. Although, maybe the Rockies can compete for the title this year.
