The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles took the win as a team, but there were several individual winners from Super Bowl LIX, which included the Eagles head coach and Tom Brady. Here are five of the biggest winners from Super Bowl LIX.
5 Biggest Winners From Super Bowl LIX
Nick Sirianni
This time last year, Nick Sirianni didn’t know if he would get another season to coach the Eagles. The Eagles owners and executives were debating whether to bring Sirianni back. Last season was a complete failure for the team. They finished the regular season on a losing streak and were bounced in the wild-card round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Not only were the Eagles losing last year, but the vibes were bad. There were multiple reported riffs between Sirianni and his quarterback.
The Eagles retained Sirianni, but it didn’t come without sweeping changes to his staff. Eagles executives hired an offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator. After starting 2-2 to start the season, Sirianni led the Eagles team all the way to the Super Bowl, dominating each opponent they came across.
Sirianni has a winning percentage of 70. That is currently the best in the NFL. He also has one of the best winning percentages among all coaches in NFL history. He has led the team to two Super Bowls and has won one. It is undeniable now that Sirianni is one of the best coaches in the NFL.
Tom Brady
Most believe that Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time. Well, Patrick Mahomes is the heir to the throne, but that is going to have to wait a little while longer. A three-peat for the Chiefs would have put Mahomes in uncharted territory as an all-time quarterback. However, Mahomes didn’t play his best game in the Super Bowl, throwing two interceptions, one of them being a pick-six.
A three-peat was something Brady never accomplished as a quarterback, and it has never been done in NFL history. If Mahomes had accomplished it, it would be one thing added to Mahomes GOAT case that Tom Brady had never done.
AFC Quarterbacks
The quarterbacks in the AFC probably took some solace in what the Eagles had done to Mahomes. Philly got done what any active quarterback in the AFC has barely been able to do outside of Joe Burrow one season. The Chiefs and Mahomes have constantly beaten Josh Allen, Lamar Jacksons, and even Burrow, even though Burrow was able to get through once. Now that the Chiefs will be looked at as a vulnerable team for the 2025 season, those fellow AFC quarterbacks will feel good about their chances of finally getting over the hump against the Chiefs next season.
Vic Fangio
In his first year as defensive coordinator for the Eagles, the veteran coach put together the best defense in the NFL. Vic Fangio, who has over 30 years of NFL history, is no stranger to coordinating top defenses in the NFL and was able to cement his legacy Sunday as one of the best defensive minds in NFL history. After coaching last season with the Miami Dolphins, the Eagles hired Fangio to be their Defensive Coordinator for big moments like the Super Bowl.
Previously 8-0 against Mahomes and the Chiefs, Fangio saved his best performance to break the losing streak. The Eagle’s defense had 25 pressures, 11 quarterback hits, six sacks, and three takeaways. Against the Eagle’s defense, Mahomes recorded an 11.4 quarterback rating, which is the second-worst in the Super Bowl.
Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts has become heavily criticized for his play for the Eagles, often being referred to as the weak link of the Eagles offense. After Sunday, that can no longer be the case for Hurts. He was the Super Bowl LIX MVP, and in his last two games between the NFC championship and Super Bowl, Hurts had 467 yards passing, three touchdowns to go with 88 yards rushing and four rushing touchdowns.
He was the best quarterback between him and Mahomes on Sunday, and in the previous Super Bowl matchup, he was arguably the best quarterback on the field then, too.
Hurts was a second-round pick in the 2020 draft behind guys like Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, and Tua Tagovailoa and has the best resume of each quarterback. He also has something Jackson and Allen don’t have, which is a Super Bowl win.
