Best Week 5 Fantasy Football Matchups

With Week 5 of the 2020 NFL season nearing, fans and analysts are predicting the upcoming games. In addition, as it is a tradition, many fans are starting to setup up their fantasy lineups for week five. It is great to have consistent, superstar fantasy players, but it is crucial to have these players and others on your team to have the best matchups available. Here are the top Week 5 fantasy football matchups in points-per-reception leagues.

Best Week 5 Fantasy Football Matchups

Quarterback

Kyler Murray vs New York Jets

Kyler Murray is coming off two performances that have led his Arizona Cardinals to have two straight losses in a row. Now, surprisingly, although his play wasn’t the best, he still managed to get 44.82 fantasy points over the two games. I expect a much better performance from him. Thankfully for him, he is going up against the horrendous Jets. Yes, these are the same Jets that allowed Denver Broncos third-string quarterback, Brett Rypien, to throw for 242 passing yards and two touchdowns. The Jets can’t stop the run or defend the pass. Expect Kyler Murray to put up over 30 fantasy points against the dreadful Jets.

Running back

Clyde Edwards-Helaire vs Las Vegas Raiders

After his marvelous rookie debut with 19.8 fantasy points, Clyde Edwards-Helaire has simmered down. It is not entirely his fault, as most of the targets have gone to the Kansas City Chiefs receivers, while his carries have gone down. Fortunately for him, he is going against the worst fantasy rushing defense in the Las Vegas Raiders. It’s a defense that has given up 30.3 fantasy points to running backs per game. Though the Chiefs will likely be throwing the football a lot, Andy Reid knows the Raiders have a poor rushing defense, so he will likely utilize Cylde Edwards-Helaire more often than last week. Edwards-Helaire will capitalize on his opportunities. Expect him to get at least a touchdown with over 150 scrimmage yards.

Wide Reciever

Tyler Lockett vs Minnesota Vikings

First off, I have to give a quick honorable mention to the receiver on the opposing team, Adam Thielen who should also have a fantastic fantasy game. Regardless, Lockett is going up against a poor Vikings secondary that has given up an average of 31 fantasy points per game to opposing receivers. Additionally, Lockett overall has been a solid fantasy receiver as he averages 20 fantasy points a game, which ranks him fourth among receivers. The biggest factor in this though is Russell Wilson. It is a primetime game in Seattle, and in those games, Russell Wilson never disappoints. Every time, Wilson has a big game, his number one receiver, Lockett, has a huge game. Look for Lockett to get over 20 fantasy points.

Tight End

Mark Andrews vs Cincinnati Bengals

Everybody knows the Baltimore Ravens beat up bad teams. Well, in this case, they are playing against a poor defense. Coincidentally, somehow against those bad teams, Mark Andrews always seems like he is the leading scorer on the Ravens. For example, against two bad teams in the Washington Football Team, and Houston Texans, he put up 43.5 combined fantasy points. Furthermore, this Ravens team will still likely be infuriated after their week three loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, so look for them to score points with no mercy against the Bengals. High scoring game for the Ravens, means a fantastic fantasy day for Andrews.

Defense/Special Teams

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Philadelphia Eagles

This is a game where the defense wins every single matchup against that Eagles offense. Sure, Carson Wentz put up 21.42 points against the San Francisco 49ers defense, but that 49ers defense is missing more than half of their starting lineup. Additionally, Wentz still threw a pick against the 49ers. He actually leads the league with seven interceptions, which makes that Steelers defense lick their chops. Wentz will have virtually no good offensive weapons, and oh yeah, his offensive line is also banged up. The Steelers will pressure Wentz into throwing picks or fumbling while racking up sacks. I wouldn’t be surprised if Wentz finishes the game with two interceptions and a fumble. Also, the Steelers should hold the Eagles to less than 20 points on the day. Look for the Steelers D/ST to have over 15 fantasy points.

Kicker

Rodrigo Blankenship vs Cleveland Browns

Usually, the best matchups for kickers are based upon which offense is predicted to score the most points in a certain week, or in this specific example, if you have an Indianapolis Colts offense that will score some touchdowns, but does not have enough explosiveness, which leads to field goal attempts. To support this, Blankenship made four field goals and an extra point in the week four win against the Chicago Bears. Overall, Blankenship is a very solid kicker, that is a top-five fantasy kicker as he averages 11.8 fantasy points a game. In this matchup, expect Blankenship to a have a minimum of three field-goal attempts, which means fantasy points for everyone who is starting him.
